Good Policy Requires Good Data - CEW Georgetown Good data is the backbone of sound policy decisions, and the US Education Department is no exception to this rule.

Markets operate more efficiently with better information. Data help educators prepare students for jobs, help policymakers effectively invest taxpayer dollars, and promote US national competitiveness by supporting human capital development. bit.ly/3QZtJZO

a bald man in a red shirt is eating a blue bag of chips . ALT: a bald man in a red shirt is eating a blue bag of chips .

Last month we went to Costco for Super Bowl snacks. Bought a giant bag of tortilla chips. It literally goes up to my knee (that's more a comment on the size of the bag and not on my height).

Now I feel guilty when I have any other snack other than chips. I just keep saying, one more on repeat.

The amount of time I spend thinking about creating an anonymous BlueSky account so that I can release my sarcasm to the world is unreasonable.

Inexplicable Cuts at the Dept. of Education Recently, DOGE has bragged about terminating 89 contracts worth a collective $881 million at the Institute for Education Sciences at the US Department of Education.

Great piece on the important studies killed off at IES

Knowing what works, for whom, and under what conditions is one of the most powerful tools I can imagine in public policy. Adding cost effectiveness analysis can improve efficiency while understanding context supports generalizability.

Across All Ages & Demographics, Test Results Show Americans Are Getting Dumber Aldeman: In the last decade, achievement scores have been falling β€” and gaps have been widening. Why is a huge unanswered question

@the74.bsky.social bringing the heat today.

Not sure I'd say we're getting "dumber" but, while only one measure of intelligence, test scores are declining.

I'd argue that the reasons for these declines are a range of issues that have been built on the teetering trust in education systems.
