IT experts from IQCB and ZDV at the University of Mainz explain young scientists how to manage their research projects efficiently and collaboratively using Git and GitLab.

On Tuesday afternoon, our IQCB IT team conducted its first joint workshop together with the ZDV at @mainzuniversity.bsky.social.

Small but significant! With a length of only 7โ€“8 mm, the harlequin fly Chironomus ripariusย is a crucial bioindicator for freshwater ecosystems. Burak Bulut from the Senckenberg Biodiversity and Climate Research Centre investigates how temperature and time shape the evolution of Chironomus riparius and presented his work in our last IQCB seminar. In our last seminar, Alexander-von-Humboldt Fellow Prof. Dr. Calvin Tadmon from the University of Dschang, Cameroon, used mathematical models to explain the dynamics of the Ebola virus. These models simulate the virus's spread and identify important factors, such as temperature, rainfall and transmission routes. Connecting the Long-read Sequencing Community in and around Mainz. With this purpose, scientists and technical staff from the University of Mainz, University Medical Center Mainz, Institute of Molecular Biology Mainz, TRON Mainz, Holzer Scientific Consulting, Saarland University, StarSEQ GmbH and Oxford Nanopore Technologies met at the end of March to explore and discuss various applications of this cutting-edge technology. It has been a pleasure for the IQCB Mainz to organise this event together with Nathaniel Deimler, Dr. Andre Holzer, Prof. Peter Baumann and Prof. Susanne Gerber, and with the support of the University of Mainz, the University Medical Center Mainz, Holzer Scientific Consulting, and the DFG Transregio 319 RMaP.

Great seminar on 26 February! We had the pleasure of welcoming Prof Andreas Deutsch from Technische Universitรคt Dresden to our IQCB Seminar Series Cross Disciplines. He showed mathematical models such as Conway's Game of Life, which help us to understand how tumours grow and how their growth can be contained. On this topic he published a book with Sabine Dormann from Universitรคt Osnabrรผck entitled "Cellular Automaton Modeling of Biological Pattern Formation" with the DOI 10.1007/978-1-4899-7980-3.
