I guess the tradeoff for having two good dreams in a week is the insomnia hitting a little harder today.
It's gonna be a rough day. Send cute fluffy animals pls
For every convo we have about pre-rendered bgs it's kinda hard to impress upon folks who weren't there that a huge part of "the look" was doing the best we could do with bad lighting math and working around it with brute force and thoughtful craft.
Same deal with baked lighting environments.
Even in the years before then, it was just needlessly stressful to have legal hovering over your shoulder for even the most mundane things like a mop and bucket. Not being allowed enough time to properly design something while things are on fire had put me in constant survival mode.

"make exactly this but legally distinct" is not art direction
it's power harassment
I really liked that all the designs look like they took time to make carefully and thoughtfully, instead of being made to churn things out at volume. But also were still allowed to swing for the fences with some seriously strange but cool design choices.

I think it's a bold choice for Helldivers to allow friendly fire, but in ME3 it's just one less thing to worry about when all you're trying to do is survive

All this talk about Marathon makes me miss Mass Effect 3 multiplayer.
There was a common enemy, multiple side goals every other wave, and all you had to do was either complete the objectives and or evacuate safely in order to keep what you got.

I could actually! It's not a bad workaround.

What I mean by transform issues is if you have a single image and just move it around, the tiling works -
but once you rotate it and then move it around the tiling breaks. This is a common issue across multiple apps.
Basically it's like you have to pre-rotate an asset in advance before importing
Today I learned something silly in Substance Painter. You can technically use any pngs as a color id mask, but if there's transparency it'll mess up the colour select.
I threw on a black bg which fixed the issue.
Making tilng textiles is a fun exercise, if a bit fraught with some transform issues
Reading all that made my blood boil.
Aren't dudes like him supposed to be responsible for finding and building this next "business model" as opposed to crowdsourcing on linkedin of all places? He has no plan, no vision, no contingency. Blaming our circumstances on social media alone is meaningless.
no skipping leg day

Of course there is no hero to save the day or anything, it's just more batshit inhumane things happening and people and insiders moving money around for funsies.
The insidious banality of it all is disgusting.
NBC has a show called "The Player" [Wesley Snipes was very good in it], where the premise is there's an all seeing AI observing world events for crimes that the 1% can bet on outcomes, our hero tries to stop crimes from happening.
We have an IRL version of this in betting apps. What the fuckery.
Sometimes I see cines that really wanna do the impossibly difficult things God of War[2018] was doing, which is so unnecessary.
In cinematics we don't need the camera tracking characters all the time if we just used hookup shots more effectively as we still can't do most realtime transitions.
Catching up on the Warframe devstream stuff and oh man DE is cooking so hard on the content cadence and sustainability front!
The art team is flexing so hard on Foley what the heck
I hope someone's given you the whirlwind grand tour of the town already!
