It would be heartening to hear prophetic teaching from U.S. bishops on issues like violent mistreatment of immigrants, extrajudicial murders in international waters, military support for genocide, etc.
They have some great models of prophetic, saintly episcopal leadership.

Great to see some U.S. Catholic bishops & others speaking out about spiritual needs of Catholics detained by ICE on behalf of Trump's regime.

But it must be absolutely clear that:
(a) it isn't detainees' spiritual needs alone that must be met, and

Trump is mentioned throughout the 2023 book, but not explicitly endorsed as the embodiment of the kind of regime change sought by Deneen & Co.
But recent pronouncements (like those in the Hungarian Conservative interview) clearly hitch Deneen's ideological wagon to the Trump/Vance regime.

I can see why Deneen's 'Why Liberalism Failed' (2018) was praised by people as diverse as Orbán and Obama. It's a neat, largely unoriginal, account of how liberalism went off the rails.
His follow-up 'Regime Change' (2023) is more ideological, but not full-on Trumpian.
Clearly, things have changed!
