Why is this obvious fact not obvious to the “tough on crime” crowd? We’ve had centuries worth of evidence that punishment and the indulgence of vengeance keeps no one safe and hurts many.

If police and prisons stopped crime, the United States, which has the largest, most militarized, and most expensive police force and prison system in the history of the world (seriously, our police forces are larger than most militaries), would have no crime.

Defund the police.

The president is sending the military to control American cities and if you're a reporter who's framing that illegal power grab as "pushing the boundaries of constitutionality" or "acting boldly to fight crime" or whatever, please go find another line of work where you won't get us all killed.
