Yesterday, Trump signed an executive order directing the expansion of federal use of the death penalty and encouraging states to do the same.

The death penalty is unjust and cruel.

Really sad. Thousands of innocent children get murdered by NRA endorsed semi auto guns and those killers get virtually no coverage. But one billionaire scumbag gets murdered and the mayor uses it as a photo op. Truly sad.

Where was this outrage when Trump sold his pardons for money? At least Biden is trying to do his part in combating over-incarceration.

Let's face it. For the next 4 years we're going to witness grift on a scale previously unimaginable. It will be important to protect our own self-interests (eg: senior citizens advocating to protect the future of Social Security and Medicare) while the next administration greeds itself silly.

Most of the people who were on Cares Act finished their sentences. So I think there's about 1500 left. Those are the people who got commutations. ACLU did not advocate for releasing some while lobbying for reincarcerating others.

1) The CARES Act commutations today
2) Two limited grants for possessing marijuana
3) Pardons for service members prosecuted for crimes associated with being LGBTQ

But his focus on categorical clemency may serve to prepare other such--like (hopefully) commutations to those on death row.
