Well, FUCK. Here I was excited for my first grant as a faculty memberโฆ

Artemis II your ride to the moon has arrived.
NASA's Orion "Integrity" Capsule has rolled out from the Launch Abort System Facility (LASF), to the VAB at KSC for stacking atop the awaiting SLS rocket, ahead of launch early next year.

NASA is now at its lowest staffing levels since the dawn of the space age.
They are destroying our scientific institutions. It will get worse and more painful until we stop them.
The Voyager Declaration - I like the sound of that!
Support NASA and our real-life Starfleet officers by signing, calling your reps, and being a STEM champion locally and nationally.

๐งช BREAKING (good news): Senate subcommittee says NO! to Trump's proposed slashes to NASA & NSF funding.
Today, the subcommittee said to keep NASA + NSF funding at $33.9 billion, the same as in FY24.
See 7:15 below. Full Senate appropriations committee meets tomorrow about it.

๐งต OSIRIS-APEX is one of the missions at risk of cancellation. It's a VERY short sighted move since the it reuses the OSIRIS-REx spacecraft which is ALREADY spaceborne. Learn more about the mission & how you might help save it, here: www.talkingspaceonline.com/osiris-apex-...
There's a lot going on. Here's how I'm finding some joy atm: Practically everything in the sky has been seen before and/or will be seen again by humankind. That connection across humanity's history is wonderful.
#3I/ATLAS? That's ours and only ours. It's come to us now and we should cherish it.
It's not just #NIH. It's not just #NSF. It's not just #NASA.
The whole scientific community has to make clear that all science across fed agencies is being destroyed in the US.
We can't just ask for our particular piece of the pie. The whole pie is being thrown out - saving your bit won't work.
So Starship Ship 36 just detonated *before* the static fire test - fueled and waiting for the test. Looks like the top tank lets go and sets off the whole stack. It would be bad enough if it let go during the static fire test, but it just blew up. And it's cooking off the fuel tanks on the pad.
This would be the largest public lands sell-off in modern U.S. history and it's happening with no hearings, no debate, and no public input.
See what public lands would be available for sale:

Man it really sucks when someone just takes your government funding away out of nowhere on a whim
Breaking News: President Trump plans to withdraw his nomination of Jared Isaacman, a billionaire entrepreneur and close associate of Elon Muskโs, who was on track to be the next NASA administrator.
Here's their justification for Planetary Science cuts. It's all focused on the human spaceflight to the Moon and Mars. There is no interest in science.
This will be devastating if enacted.
This really is an extinction level event for NASA's science programs.

๐๏ธ"NASA makes 'emergency' decision as chances of 'city-destroying' asteroid hitting Earth rise to 1-in-43"
It's since dropped to a 1-in-48 chance & the๐จdecision was just to use JWST to collect more data๐ค๐ญ๐งช

Today is NASA's Day Of Remembrance, a day to remember those who lost their lives in the pursuit of spaceflight.
It is also a reminder to remember the lessons we were taught the hardest way.
Loved the Pima Air & Space museum, Titan Missile Museum is in the area and worth a visit

Being able to hear teenagers experience Interstellar for the first time and be as awestruck as I was 10 years ago certainly made my year

If you're going to post space images, please post REAL ones. This kind of CG'd crap just makes things annoying. The actual Hubble image: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Helix_N...
Very excited, fingers crossed for a good relight test! ๐ค
