06.10.2025 22:12 โ ๐ 20 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0I need to finish writing our Bean Club newsletter today, followed by our regular newsletter for Thursday, and then a wholesale newsletter and of course the holidays are coming and I said, "It's just not worth all the deaths I have to die"
No one got the reference.

Bad Bunny was way off my radar. The funny thing is, all this outrage is only going to make him more popular. I looked him up, and I am just in love with this track:
youtu.be/a1Femq4NPxs?... every day for you.
Iโm glad I didnโt make that up!
05.10.2025 17:52 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Non-sequitur Sunday: More William Spratling, this time a coffee set called โOvaladoโ. This was my Moby Dick for years. It just never came up for sale or auction. Thereโs also a slightly smaller teapot. I think I remember hearing that there is a set in the LA museum of modern art.

My mid-life crisis was not drugs or fast cars but jazz standards.

Season 3, Episode 5
From the Source
We had a customer come to the store that saw us on Katie Button's great series, From The Source, and we haven't shared this for awhile. You can see it on HBO Max and you'll meet some of the staff and neighbors, all for the love of beans.

And now it's time to cancel Paramount Plus, I would say.
02.10.2025 21:07 โ ๐ 17 ๐ 2 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0I responded to this but we all have moments of wondering if we're fiddling while Rome burns.
I really think it's about having some feeling of control and comfort when so much is out of our grasp.
Feeding each other feels like victory.
Itโs a real issue. On one hand, it seems frivolous to talk about soaking beans or not while these events are going on, but for some of us, it seems as if our only defense is to cook. Itโs our little corner of the world that we can control and make better. If it helps others, thatโs a win. โค๏ธ
01.10.2025 13:41 โ ๐ 19 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Aguachile is a Mexican dish usually made with raw seafood in a spicy marinade. We tried a version with our Garbanzos and dang, it works! It's bright and bold and somewhat addictive, especially when scooped up with thick tortilla chips.
30.09.2025 18:35 โ ๐ 69 ๐ 4 ๐ฌ 8 ๐ 1Non-sequitur Sunday: Last week at the โMuseo Nacional de Arte in Mexico City.
Lots of great art (LOTS!) but of course I was attracted to all the paintings with food.
I now have weekend plans. Thank you.
26.09.2025 23:19 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0You know, every now and then, you deserve a few nice things.
If my friends could read this, they would laugh. I indulge quite a bit, if you know what I mean and I think you do.
I donโt think there should be any budget for books or music. You should get what you want. Itโll pay off in the end.
More Breakfasts of Champions: Puglia lentils with a searingly hot chipotle tomato salsa and some leftover rotisserie chicken. Is that a dab (plop) of Bellweather Farms crรจme fraรฎche? Why, it certainly is and it was certainly delicious.

I feel validated!
It was one of the first beans we grew and itโs actually an easier ๐ซ to grow and harvest so I tended not to be as an enamored with it but itโs so consistent and so delicious and youโre right, all of a sudden you realize all these things and itโs true love.
Breakfast of champions: freshly made Puglia lentils with some leftover Veracruzana sauce and brined French goat cheese. A great way to start the day!

I have another prayer, and I'm not proud of myself for having it.
23.09.2025 00:32 โ ๐ 4 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0A lake with a beautiful sky in the state of Veracruz.
I've just returned from the coast of Veracruz. As I write this, I realize it's a lake. Please leave me alone. I am tired, but happy and very well-fed.
If you are like me, I think I'm too busy to travel, but then I do, and I realize I was nuts. It's nice to leave the bubble.
I declare it soup season!
Improvised a soup with @ranchogordo.bsky.social Good Mother Stallard beans (IYKYK), some sweated onion and garlic, herbs and pimenton, homemade stock and ham bone from the freezer, diced tomatoes, and collards.
Plus homemade sourdough of course
In the Bean Club group, they love to say, "I spotted RG in the wild". For us, this is the wild.
They also describe visiting our store as "visiting the Mothership". BUT IT'S NOT A CULT!!!!
You are accomplished. Looks GREAT!
22.09.2025 23:08 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Fried plantains like my Ghanaian mom makes, resting and releasing oil onto paper towels on a dinner plate. Around half of them were severely burnt on one side, so I pulled them aside into a bowl to eat immediately. ๐
I could not stop grabbing bits of this delicious kale from the glass serving bowl while the other food was cooking. Kale sautรฉed in bacon grease with a little salt, a whole bunch of black pepper, garlic powder, a lot of paprika. Delicious! ๐
A pot of cooked white quinoa, seasoned with salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and an excess amount of lime juice. It was the perfect amount. ๐
My first batch of Rancho Gordo beans! I went a little wild. Sautรฉed fresh minced onion and ginger and garlic in olive oil, added an array of spices that include cumin and gochugaru Korean chili flakes and umami mushroom seasoning, added a cup and half of beef broth and five cups of water, added two bags of different Rancho Gordo beans (black caviar lentils and Flor de Junio heirloom beans), stirred, dropped three bay leaves in, and then set the Instant Pot timer for 17 minutes. Natural release of roughly 23 or 24 minutes led to this picture of deliciousness in a pressure cooker.
I cooked for 2 ยฝ hours this afternoon. Fried plantains like my Ghanaian mom makes, kale sautรฉed in bacon grease with gochugang and other spices, quinoa with garlic and lots of lime juice, and a mix of two Rancho Gordo beans added to a well-spiced base with more gochugang. #BeanSky #HeirloomBeans
