I think seeing “ pick yourself up” for the first time freaked me out and changed my aesthetic completely. I was probably in high school and I couldn’t believe how athletic it was and also how musical. And then I had to discover every song by Jerome Kern. It was a great time!

LOL! For sure-- we did not.
But we had fun and honestly, that skill to dance a simple box step (and the Cha Cha) have served me very well over the years!

The cool thing is, you could never have planned this. It’s such a happy, joyful accident. No corporate mergers, no war, no scandals. Beans.

Beans. Who knew?

When we were making this, we discovered that a can of beans can be wildly different. More and more they are water and salt with fewer beans. But this is approximate.

One of "those" recipes that ends up being so much better than you'd think, even though it already sounds pretty good!

Beans for a savory breakfast: Nutty, new-crop Pardina lentils, topped with some leftover rotisserie chicken, lots of za'atar and a dollop of Bellweather Farms Crème Fraîche. It's going to be a grand day.

I just went to a quincienra and the message was that we had to make sure the young girl didn't stray. No mention of boys and men needing to control themselves. It was all on her, with our help. I was somewhat repulsed.

Where are you located?

I abuse mine and I still get a lot. But I’m in northern California. We only had frost once or twice this year, but it was a very cold winter.

What is it about enfrijoladas that make them so irresistible? The warm tortilla smothered in pureed bean sauce never disappoints.

We have a lot of beans. See Gaga while you can. Have a great time and we’ll be here when you’re done.

We will be sorry to see you go but I totally get it. It comes out to about half a pound a week, which doesn’t sound like much but if you skip a week or two suddenly the backup starts.
Happily, we have tons of beans, available when you want them, exactly as you want them.

Top-notch Leftovers: Cranberry Beans (Borlotti), hominy (posole), brocollini with bean broth and stock, all waiting in my fridge for something to happen, and it did! Lemon zest courtesy of my Meyers lemon tree. Life can be really delicious without even trying sometimes!

We all know the first rule of Bean Club: You never shut up about Bean Club.

My kid has proposed a second rule of Bean Club: There’s no such thing as too many beans.
