My ear training experience was rote and mechanical. I identified triad progressions, triad inversions, triad and seventh chord types, intervals, and scales and scale degrees. There was no context to any of it, so I ended up hating it. I did well. Don’t ask about sight singing!
73 today with plenty of sunshine in southern Berkshire County, Western MA. I was in a t-shirt by 11:00 am. It was heavenly with the warmth and sunshine and no humidity!
It’s all good. I’m polar opposites between my two instruments. One I play by ear because I won’t touch the sheet music for it, while the other requires me to read because I can’t play it by ear. How in the heck is my brain wired? 😆
I’m learning a few songs from the K-Pop Demon Hunters soundtrack, and playing the sheet music on my piano note for note is the only way I can do it. I’m still having a blast, though!
I don’t read drum set sheet music. On the other hand, I can’t play piano without sheet music, so I feel like a robot at times on the piano.
Dr. Schumann: this is a topic to which there may not be a right or wrong answer. I can only play my drum set by ear. Drum set sheet music is horrible to read. Conversely, I also play piano, but I can only read sheet music, nothing by ear. I’m dead without sheet music and am criticized for that.
I respect all of the arts. I’m a musician and avid theater-goer. My eldest son is a musician and is off to a local theater camp next month. The arts are so important to us that he’s leaving his current school because they slashed arts programming and shifted all the funds to sports. That’s a no no.
Again, we love your book, Emily!
My son and I use your book and love it. That’s how I found out about you. Your book made music theory more accessible to him because it discusses music that many young students listen to now. That’s not to diminish the value of classical and jazz, both of which I’ve played extensively.
I really aged myself when I talked to my 11 yo about the Backstreet Boys! However, I have noticed that he and some of his friends have been listening to some music from the 80s and 90s. That’s intriguing. Conversely, I’m listening to what’s most current.
That is a real beauty. 😊
Having gone green long ago would’ve spared this. Now, we finally have relatively affordable EVs and hybrid cars, but the orange idiot who started the wars over oil control is the same moron who repealed the tax incentives for EVs. To those who supported Trump, you shall reap what you sow at the pump
I love AOC! I also used to live about 20 minutes south of Glens Falls, which is from where she has given this speech.
I just got a new teaching job, and quite a few of my colleagues are people of color and LGBTQIA. What sold me on the job was how welcoming they were to me. They made me feel at home. The gender and racial diversity among the students and staff there makes it a very special place to me.
And, one last thing is that I’m very anti war. In the end, everybody loses. At home, SNAP and cash assistance to the needy, public education, the arts, and environmental preservation will be cut, as will jobs. It’s all about the Iranian and Venezuelan oil that only benefits the elite, like Trump.
I wouldn’t be who I am today had it not been for all of the women in my life. I fell into a slump a couple of years ago in which I brought others the worst version of myself. The women in my life showed up to help pick up the pieces and to put me back together again. I’m now at my best. Gratitude! ❤️
And, I had no intention on even suggesting that those enlisted had no other options. I owned a small business for years. There are lots of career paths for everyone to explore. The military doesn’t “save” poor people.
Maybe you misunderstood me. I know there are animals in the military. I know some of them. There are others, like members of our national guard, who don’t want to assist in immigration enforcement, and that shouldn’t be legal; however, they take joy in helping others in a natural disaster.
I wouldn’t be who I am today had it not been for the women in my life who showed up for me.
I was just complimenting you. How you are treated by others is the most important thing.
❤️❤️❤️
First and foremost, you look great. Yes, middle age women have aged out of that demographic of women (e.g., 20s and thin and bait for old, powerful, sex-hungry, white men). As a white man, my heart breaks for those women, and I’d defend them anytime. I hope that you feel liberated and wholesome.
So much for the cheap eggs and gas the con man promised us, and I didn’t vote for him, either. My heart breaks for the innocent service members’ lives lost. I’m sure none of them want to be fighting, knowing that when they deployed, they may very well have then taken their last breath on U.S. soil.
Try being single and wanting to meet someone today. All the women on the dating apps want to do is endlessly text and hang out on social media. Is this the reality that I have to accept? 😩
AI and social media are making it so rough out there. Nobody wants to hang out anymore. Instead, they’re conversing with ChatGPT and doomscrolling on Facebook. I’m not kidding you. I sent everywhere and across all demographics.
I LOVE you women! You’re all smart, entertaining, and classy.
There’s ample clinical evidence behind your statement. I played classical music to my sons when they were born. One is a musician and both are doing well emotionally and intellectually. They’re ages 8 and 11. It’s amazing what immense power music has.
I love sushi and have it about once a week. I have a local supermarket that does a tremendous job preparing it.
I’m very grateful, though.
