What's important for Saracens from a legal perspective is they get this statement out because tapping up a player or coach more than 12 months before their contract ends leads to fines and suspensions - if proven. World Rugby Regulation 4.9

I'm sure he'll have another one up soon enough.
He must have a daily quota to call people a cnut.

"Maybe a rising tide does lift all boats⦠time will tell"
As Ireland celebrate an historic win; I tried to rate, analyse and discuss a potential turning point in team's trajectory (or so I hope)

Superb signing by Munster. Will really fit into the scheme McMillan is building with Munster this season and along with the other expected signings should make a solid impact next season.

Really hard to understand the changes. Sam out of the 24 just goes to show how poor the man mgmt of the 10 has been since about 2020.
No Edogbo or Izuchukwu and Conan to the bench means a real lack of power for the scrum, lineout and heavy carriers.
TOB in because of Ringrose knock?

Rumoured Ireland team has Prendergast out of the 23 altogether.
Farrells handling of the 10 situation pre and post 2023 has been absolutely shocking.

4. I suppose it comes down to how tight Leinsters budget is after all the recent changes, had they factored in taking on additional costs for Lowe dropping off a PONI deal and if push comes to shove would they be willing to lose guys down the depth chart or let Lowe go?

3. POMs deal went from fully covered central to PONI for the Irish captain at the time but only after significant talks and delays.
I think if the Irish team needs a player that much they should stump the majority of the cash for the player but precedent has been set.

2. The older PONI deals would have the IRFU covering up to 60% of the cost but in the new scheme under Humphreys thats the same as a central contract so there may be pressure to bump him down.
Asking the province to take on an even greater or full hit of a substantial β¬ is a lot

1. Bernard Jackman mentioned in passing on Against the Head that James Lowes contract was taking some time to resolve. I wonder if it's a situation similar to Peter O'Mahonys.
Lowe isnt on a central deal but is likely to be on a PONI deal at present.

Defensively Sams tackle % is no longer a factor, the problem is that teams are just continuing to punch the bruise. They attack him wherever Ireland put him because they get front foot ball, they are almost guaranteed front foot ball and sucking in an extra defender or two to exploit the next phase

Sam's game hasn't really changed much since Nov 2024 except the extremely positive PR is no longer there.
I do think Crowley and Prendergast both have suffered since they started tilting the ball sideways on the kicking tee.

Sam's initial problem was that he was hyped beyond belief. Farrell talked him up to the press, Jackman blew him up in every podcast and guys like Matt Dawson/OTB made fools of themselves.
Those who actually analysed the games realised they were being Frank Grimes'd.

4. The Cult of Lancaster and it's impact on the pathways is real. Mobility and catch pass are more important in our tight five than set piece. We don't value big ball carriers because we want more rounded players and thats fine but the game has now changed and we need them.

3. If we have to rely on footwork before contact and catch pass then we will struggle against bigger better teams and with our current players need a running threat and playmaker from 10 whether that is Crowley, Frawley or Byrne.

2. Give him more options to win gain line, have a dominant set piece and then pick his passes on the front foot. Irelands pack has far too many players who are picked for their all round game rather than set piece of heavy carrying.

1. Sams skillset around his kick length, height, hang time and the length of his pass are what Farrell sees as his big difference makers. Unfortunately for Sam to work well in the system he needs a different type of player around him. He needs more heavy carriers he can pass to.

A long read on how Ireland got to this point, why we look like malfunctioning robots and why the new rugby looks so far out of our natural game.

It's the cohesion ponzi scheme. Farrells gone so far down the depth chart and into the academy of cohesion that there's no new income coming in and now he can't make the payments on the other side. It's change of tactics or change of coaches because we don't have the volume of players.

Farrell and the IRFU seem to have different views on Bundee.
Will be interesting to see what the outcome of the internal IRFU inquiry will be which is separate to the URC disciplinary committee and if there will be an additional ban.

A large part of it will be Lancasters vision for the squad. He will have laid that out before he signed up and it looks like he wants to clear house a bit and bring in guys he knows from Leinster.
As you say some of it may be player choice but some of it may be long term planning as well.

Agree on the depth charts being subjective but Sean has been name checked by the coaches as someone they wanted to get involved earlier in the season but it didn't work out. He's a high ceiling player who I think is perfect for the 7 role in McMillans system. I think he's plug and play ready.

THE BIG RIG
This was a standout performance from Edwin Edogbo. Size, power and an increasing ability in the tight exchanges.
