First articles now hitting the front page layout of the Sunday Social News at DS4SI in Dorchester this morning.
I've been making mini newspapers at events like Public Lab Barnraisings and DS4SI's Social Emergency Response Centers for years, but learning about these earlier inspirations from the Gwangju Uprising has been personally very moving and has brought new meaning to this work. ♥️✊🏼
At the time, newspapers couldn't or wouldn't tell the story of their popular citywide uprising, or of the brutal killing of protesters by the us-backed dictatorship. So students and others began publishing a one page newspaper called 투사회보 Tusahoebo, or the Fighters Bulletin.
I'll be participating in this event by the Design Studio for Social Intervention -- and running a mini collaborative DIY newspaper for the event inspired by the 📰 published by students during the 1980 Gwangju Uprising.
