Swaying waves, gentle froth,
the water shimmers and sparkles.
Is it the dance of the setting sun?
The flicker and splash of scaly fishtails?
Or can she see the mermaids
as they frolic and play?

Honestly, I am absolutely disgusted by academics suggesting that AI can do the reading and writing for you. At a certain point, what you're bragging about is fraud. And in a broader sense, what you're contributing to is the erosion of knowledge and the destruction of trust in academic publishing.

And so we write to brilliant postgraduate students from Sudan, withdrawing the offers and scholarships they won in open competition with the best in the world. A sad day for the University of Oxford.

You know the best way to kill AI? Don't use it. Don't buy it. Don't share it. Don't give the people who use it your labour or your money.

A pile of stationery including a certificate commemorating membership of the Handwritten Letter Appreciation Society.

So lovely to receive my @letterappsoc.bsky.social welcome cert and badge yesterday, and a delightful handwritten letter (obvs) from Dinah.

Meet Mackenzie Bly (not his real name; see back cover).
I wanted to write something purely funny, but fell in love with my lead character along the way.
It's out in August, but the lovely proofs, with cover by Jim Kay, have just arrived.
Repost before tomorrow (Sun) evening, and I'll pick a winner.

A grass field with a few sporadic trees, undulating gently below a bright blue sky and evening sunlight Hannah, in a green offroad powerchair, wearing a purple raincoat and a broad grin - sat on an unofficial path at the edge of some woodland, with really tall pine trees. close up of delicate, white, 5-petal flowers on a tree. The view from the top of a hill, out across Day's lock - a river and many flooded fields/ponds, in a landscape of patchwork fields and distant villages. Fading into a hazy distance

Couple of photos from a trip to Whittenham clumps (local nature reserve) the other day. It was SO beautiful to be out in the sunshine, enjoying the start of spring. And yes, going right through the patch of serious mud because my powerchair can handle it was definitely a highlight.

Just realised that the nonsensical email responses from allegedly David Lloyd re ending my membership are being responded to by a BOT/AI so now banging my head against a brick wall! It now makes sense why they don't make sense!

I don't understand why anyone would walk into a book shop with an ice of any description? My parents would never let me walk about eating ice cream & I would have to sit on a sea wall or other spot until I had finished. Many years later I still do this - it makes sense & stops mishaps.

A wide sandy beach under a blue sky with white clouds. There are mountains in the distance, and in the foreground, a hand reaches out to pat a small (very old) dog.

Sometimes, we have to look hard for the good news... and on Saturday IT DID NOT RAIN IN #NorthWales!!!

Here's a final piece of wisdom from the wonderful poet, and our 2025 competition judge, Liz Berry:

'To make a poem, to engage in something creative and attentive in a world which increasingly guides us only to consume is a beautiful and important thing, and that must not be forgotten. Keep going!'

A bookshelf filled with books bought at the Faversham literary festival, food & wine writing, poetry, fantasy, politics, art and more.

This year's @favlit.org shelf... smaller than it might have been because I was away last weekend, sad to miss Marina Warner, Natalie Haynes, Ben Okri & more. And even this week can't see everyone! A whole universe of imagination & humanity spiralling out from this small North Kent town.

Front cover paper of hardback book which has a stylised background of grey, green, yellow waves with an orange lifeboat riding the waves. At the top of the picture is the lighthouse, shacks and power station at Dungeness silhouetted in black. The name of the author is at the top Dominic Gregory and the title in large white letters Lifeboat at the End of the World. A Volunteers' Story.

Listened to Dominic Gregory talk about his book #LifeboatAtTheEndOfTheWorld as a volunteer with the @RNLI Dungeness @favlit.org

He received a standing ovation for his work & the crew as well as everyone who volunteers for the RNLI. Can’t wait to read the book.
