It's #WomensHistoryMonth! Throughout March weβll be highlighting the legacy of women in transit and focusing on some of the individuals who were first in their fields. π¨ We begin with Amelia "Oppy" Opdyke Jones, the creative force behind the "Subway Sun" from the mid-1940s until the 1960s.

Transit-Oriented Housing On Track For Continued Growth
Evidence continues to mount that transit-oriented development brings positive economic impact and reduces traffic snarls, among many other advantages.
βThe way to fight traffic isnβt to keep widening highways and building exurban sprawl. Itβs densification around existing transit stops, so driving is no longer a necessity.β

Can Anyone Stop Baltimore Cityβs Most Dangerous Drivers?
Crashes have killed nearly 500 people in Baltimore City over the past decade, and safety advocates say leaders have left tools on the table.
βWeβve been brainwashed to believeβand this is reinforced through our decisions about the design of our streets, speed limits, every sort of built environment decision, as well as the lawβthat car convenience is more important than human life.β

If you're serious about improving transit, here's a great book to start with. Making transit better is unfortunately very political and takes work.

I appreciate your frustration, simply spewing these words isn't productive. The change you wish to see is rooted in political, financial & policy realities. Many of which are not in the control of the MTA. I recommend contacting your elected officials & researching local transit advocacy efforts.

Bikes don't really belong on the sidewalk. Those are for pedestrians. You don't want bikes and people walking to mix unless you have a rather wide pathway. This is especially true in denser cities.

Cameras, coming to a Baltimore bus lane near you
Officials have yet to decide when the cameras will become active, but a grace period will be offered before tickets are issued, said a city Department of Transportation spokesperson.
Clear bus lanes are essential to moving a few hundred thousand people who take buses in Baltimore each day. Transit riders moving through the community in one of the most efficient ways possible deserve a smooth and speedy commute.

Whether you use it or not, better public transit makes your commute better
A surprisingly small drop in cars on the road can dramatically ease congestion, and public transit is one way to get there.
People who don't ride transit should still support it.
Why? Because you canβt build your way out of traffic with more lanes, but you CAN transit your way out of it by giving others a better option.
Fewer cars = faster commutes for all. ππ¨ www.fastcompany.com/91493803/whe...
