Trauma-Informed Governance asks leaders to do better. It means designing laws and institutions that prioritize dignity, stability, healing, and long-term outcomes instead of punishment, chaos, and crisis management. It means understanding the human impact of policy before we pass it.
When government ignores that reality, policy can unintentionally retraumatize the people it touches.
Too often, laws are written w/o asking a basic question: will this policy heal, will it deepen the wounds people already carry? Trauma-informed policymaking means recognizing people come to government systems after experiencing war, poverty, abuse, medical debt, addiction, discrimination, or loss.
Trauma-Informed Governance means something simple but powerful: government should stop creating policies that re-harm the very people it claims to help.
