Federal agents deployed tear gas in Elgin IL

Feds deployed tear gas while fleeing an apartment complex in Elgin, IL. just now. Unclear if they kidnapped the person they were after.

Livestreamer: "We are in contact with his family. We have lawyers coming too."

A State Senator is there but I didn't get their name. Livestreamer asking "where are the politicians from Elgin?"

Im no crowd size expert but when the livestreamer pans out, walks through crowd, the crowd looks like it has grown.

People are chanting, offering pizza and water. There's amplified sound. Person yelling, "We aren't leaving. We're here for you until they leave."

Always striking when you see really young people in pictures protesting against federal agents.

A lot of young and even kids have seen a lot of these actions.

tense moments, Feds rushed into crowd, threaten crowd with nonlethals, before retreating and forming a new line. Crowd was standing on public property.

Someone appeared on a balcony, community neighbors cheered. unsure if this is the person Feds are after. Someone shouted: "We keep us safe"

Feds are claiming the man crashed his vehicle into them and is a gang member according to livestreamer. But Chicagoans knows federal agents always lie including in court.

Community members are still rolling in. Elgin PD arrived. Community members pleading with them to get Feds to show a warrant and their ID.

ERO guy with pepper spray that he just used against nonviolent community members.

Standoff has been going on for at least 2 hours. Chatter on live feed is that the person Feds are after either is a supposed gang member or federal agents are claiming the person crashed their car into them.

The ERO officer in this still pepper sprayed the person on livefeed that I screencapped.

Happening right now. Community members in Elgin, IL are in a standoff with Feds who are trying to abduct their neighbor.

*bad in this case means less oversight of police, more money for militarizing department, more surveillance tech that doesn't work as intended, less money for schools etc. etc.

can't find this quick enough but when I posted I was thinking about a study that shows when rank/file police unions align with police brass, it's bad, esp if a Paul Vallas type was mayor and they had majority in city hall. With a progressive mayor I thought it'd be different.
