What did Pasolini know? Fifty years after his brutal murder, the directorโ€™s vision of fascism is more urgent than ever With mystery still surrounding Pier Paolo Pasoliniโ€™s death, the poet and film-makerโ€™s warnings of corruption and rising totalitarianism offer a chilling message for our times

"What he knew, in short, was that fascism was not over, and that the right would metastasise, returning in a new form to claim power over a populace stupefied by the tawdry blandishments of capitalism. Was Pasolini wrong in his predictions? I think we all know the answer to that."

During tonightโ€™s Trick-or-Treating, our 3-year-old got more and more excited.

โ€œMore houses! More candy!โ€

Until he suddenly looked to the sky and shouted (verbatim):

โ€œCan I eat the moon!?โ€

Donโ€™t let anyone tell you you canโ€™t, little one. Be the cosmic horror you want to see in the world.

A terracotta bust of a girl wearing a crescent-shaped pendant, known as a lunula, which was typically worn by females.
Lunula pendants were believed to possess apotropaic qualities, meaning they were intended to ward off evil. The moon was a symbol associated. ..๐Ÿงต1/2

Fair enough. (Also i get a bit annoyed with gatekeeping who is and who isn't a historian per ce. If it is a well researched piece, well written and we can learn from then it's fine for me. But my guess is that this isn't a nuanced and researched book!)

Great read from @iandunt.bsky.social on whether Starmer should stay or go, including the mystery of how, if youโ€™re launching a popular climate, energy, and growth strategy, why wouldnโ€™t you stage a press conference on it?

He keeps referring to Roberts as a "non historian" or "not expert" etc which is fair, but neither is Tom Holland! He isn't a historian. And he has an agenda too! And on the Islamophobic spectrum sometimes on his comments/ opinions. I don't see doing the same with him.

Hospitality industry. Pubs, bars, restaurants, cafes, nightclubs, social clubs all are great things and we need more of them open more times, so people can enjoy their free time together. Community life can be libraries, parks, playgrounds, theatres not catchphrases, we can dismiss all the above.

Every little helps. Raise the council taxes for houses worth over a million, tax the millionaires properly, etc. All together. Won't be enough to completely make the country rich but its some money coming in at least!

Regarding the discussion about filling the coffers/plugging the black hole on state finances, raising taxes, all the panelists discussed why each measure that is suggested doesn't raise enough money. How about implementing all measures together? Find the tax avoiders, tax property, etc...
