1/ Imagine arriving at the lake to find out it is too dangerous to enjoy. Signs about human and pet health dangers are not what we want to find. Serious lake health warnings are being issued more than ever before as a result of harmful cyanobacteria, commonly referred to as blue-green algae.

What is a fen? 

A fen is a peat-forming wetland that relies on groundwater input. The vegetation found in these areas ranges from black spruce to sedges, grasses, and mosses.

These biodiversity hotspots require thousands of years to develop, meaning they cannot be restored once destroyed.

Aquatic plant spotlight: White Water Lily (Nymphaea odorata)

💧This floating plant fragrant, white flowers and flat, round, floating leaves. 

💧Like other plants, they take in carbon dioxide and produce oxygen. 

💧They also protect water quality, keeping our lakes and wetlands clean and beautiful!

Though they might tickle our toes while we're swimming or get caught in our boat motors, aquatic plants don't deserve the bad rap that they sometimes get.
