Am I right in thinking that the East Yorkshire Family History Society are attending the @federationfhs.bsky.social #familyhistory show in April at St Ives, Cambs.?
That was helpful - maybe he was a family historian in his spare time!
Oooh yes, can't wait!
Nice to meet you, Tony!
Wow, that is spooky!
Been a bit busy with other stuff but just watched @janetfew.bsky.social's talk on Timelines. Something I first tried when doing her @pharostutors.bsky.social course on Writing Your Family History. The talk really explained it clearly, step-by-step. I'll definitely be using this! Any recommendations?
Awww, have a lovely evening π
I was just about to say the same! I've just been looking at Manorial records as part of my 'Researching Your Yorkshire Ancestors' course @pharostutors.bsky.social
That's what im doing today! Finding it interesting and useful so far
Yes, thankfully don't have to do that anymore!
Oh I hated doing that! There must be a better system - would invariably get there and there would still be a queue because someone had gone over their time!
Can't wait for my copy to arrive now! I think I'm going to find it very helpful π
Enjoyed this - fascinating and entertaining. It was like having a time-travelling tour guide, walking you along High Streets through time. Revealing how shops and shopping have changed and giving an insight into that aspect of my ancestors' lives #familyhistory @dranniegray.bsky.social
I first became interested in my family history when I was 7 - I'm nearly 61 now! Before I really knew what I was doing, I created questionnaires for my grandparents and g-aunts. They are long gone now, but I treasure those bits of paper with their handwritten answers.
Me and my husband both have ancestors from East Yorkshire, and it's where we both grew up. I think the course is going to be very interesting and useful - really looking forward to it π
Oh my goodness!
I found the hardback of this in my local Oxfam for just six quid! Didn't even look like it had been read - someone missed a real treat! Their loss, my gain π
A 'do not keep pile'? I fear my side of the family also passed on the 'keep everything' gene! I know it makes sense to get rid of some stuff, but it is going to be difficult!
It's quite odd what people kept, isn't it? Here are just a couple of things I found in my husband's parent's things...
π
Was lucky enough to get a bunch of flowers - before mine headed off to watch the rugby! Sarries though, not Six Nations. No matter - my Norfolk ancestors await!
Looking forward to starting this course π
Sounds like a really difficult day - hoping things are looking better for you now π€
It was such a fascinating book - I hadn't previously thought about the British men and women in France, working to care for the WW1 graves, but then caught up in WW2. Stories of incredible courage. Well worth a read.
This book, which I highly recommend, describes how prisoners, forced to work in a munitions factory at a prisoner of war camp, 'engaged in small-scale sabotage' - causing machines to overheat, bending detonators and adulterating gunpowder with flies and saliva.
Can't say I was totally convinced by some of those scone flavours though!
Well, that was a treat for a wet and miserable Thursday!
Haha! I like it - I won't tell anyone! Definitely looks like it will be worth it
Grrrr!! Is it available to listen to later? I thought of listening to that but I'm waiting in for a delivery 'sometime' today - you can bet they'll turn up at 1pm!
