player he's clearly not. The good news is that opens time for Baty & Taylor to get work. Arguably 1/2 of it will be split among them w/Baty the primary understudy & Taylor the bench player. The hope is though if they need Robert they can leverage him & if he's healthy it should bring an advantage
Luis Robert Jr made his Spring debut w/the Mets yesterday. He's finally ready for on field work but it comes w/an accepted caveat... limited playing time. Not only now (as you'd expect) but all season long. Supposedly this has been the plan the whole time & while he's being called a "everyday"
IP back on 3/4/26 & gave up no runs in a MiLB game. His next step is a Grapefruit game before end of Spring. No word though since last week as to when that will be but apparently he's still on target.

still be back before end of season (~6-8 month recovery period) but it's also got a caveat in that estimate since it's a complex recovery for a complex issue.
Bad - Waddell is still dealing w/shoulder fatigue. He's throwing out of game though. No update to recovery yet.
Good - Minter threw his 1st
The Mets IL... some good news... some bad news...
Good - Lindor is doing well after his 1st MiLB game but they want him to play a Grapefruit League game before the end of Spring to be 100% sure he's ready for Opening Day. Should be soon.
Bad - Stock who has shoulder issues needs surgery. He should

unexpected at all. If anything he's WAY ahead of where he should be at this point in his MiLB career but not quite ready for a full MLB season. This gives the coaches time to work w/his, continue to develop his stuff & work to condition him so he avoids injury. All keys to Tong's future that all
The Mets (as expected) optioned Tong to AAA. He's going to be back I'm sure before the end of the season (probably in September once rosters expand). Tong had a decent Spring but clearly still has more work to do as far as control & pitch usage goes. Given where he is in his career arc that's not
high seed... probably NOT the team you want so I guess that's the stakes here) Soto destroyed yet another ball. He wasn't the only DR player to do it though. Ketel Marte, Vladimir Guerrero Jr & Fernando Tatis Jr also murdered a ball as Team DR was just raking.

Meanwhile Met Juan Soto continues to absolute destroy baseballs for Team DR in the WBC. In a high stakes game against Venezuela that actually wasn't high stakes at all (both teams were guaranteed to advance but the winner would take on the low seed while the loser would get Japan who was already the
than thrilled by that as it was about to get more eyes for what was once considered a non-event. How much drama could one game bring? Apparently A LOT OF DRAMA as we saw.
The Italy v Mexico WBC game determining the US's ability to advance to the quarterfinals raised the whole profile of what supposed to be a low watched game in the US. That forced the WBC to move the game from Tubi to FOX FS1 in a last minute upgrade for viewership in the US. I'm sure Tubi was less
Royals 1B & Team Italy captain Vinnie Pasquantino made history yesterday during the Italy v Mexico game as he became the 1st player to hit multiple HRs in a WBC game. He had 3 HRs last night.

Team Canada beat Cuba yesterday too meaning they will also advance to quarter finals while for the 1st time a long time Cuba finds itself booted out of the WBC in a round 1 pool elimination. That also means that Canada now takes on the US in the quarterfinals setting up all sorts of drama given the
Italy beat Mexico by more than 5 runs so the US advances (with Italy as the 4-0 pool winner) as the conciliary 2nd place seed to the WBC quarter finals. Not ideal but we're in.

season hopes for the NYM. For that-- now you stand around & watch us celebrate. That will teach you Marlins not to spoil our post season chances! 🤷🤣😆😉
Celebration event on Saturday, August 1, 2026 prior to the 4:10pm game against the Miami Marlins.
Why the Marlins have to watch all our celebrations at Citi Field is your best guess. Payback maybe for all the upsets they've done against us in years past towards the end of the season ending any post
induction for retired ex-Met OF Carlos Beltran as well at a TBD date this season. Beltran recently went into the Baseball HOF as part of this year's 2026 inductees & now the Mets have to play catch up on the team HOF side.
On top of all this, the Mets will also host a 1986 World Series Reunion &
The NY Mets announced earlier today that retired ex-Mets OF Lee Mazzilli & manager Bobby Valentine will be inducted into the Mets Hall of Fame in a pre-game ceremony on Saturday, May 30, 2026 prior to the 4:10p game against the Miami Marlins in Citi Field.
Separately the Mets plan on a Team HOF
As of right now, here's how the WBC Pools stand (per Athletic):

w/81pts. Kobe is one of Bam's cited NBA heroes. Needless to say he's still in a bit of shock. Bam has never had more than 41pts in a game (a still very impressive amount) but he was next level yesterday, having made that many points by the 1/2. Nuts.

Miami Heat player Bam Adebayo had a 83pt night in their 150-129 W over the Wizards. Yes that was the score not the number of shots taken. That puts Bam 2nd in point total to Wilt Chamberlain in NBA history. Wilt had an insane 100pt game points total in 1962. Bam passes Kobe Bryant who falls to 3rd

Mets pitcher McLean didn't have a good SP outing for Team USA yesterday in the Italy v US game. In 3IP he gave up 2H for 3R/ER made 2BB 4K w/2HR allowed. The HRs were the issue but the BB also put a runner on that lead to another R. It was a surprisingly subpar start after a very good Spring. It
I give you the single most important Mets news of the last 48 hours: Francisco Lindor played 4 innings in a MiLB game yesterday & had no issues. He feels tired but good today. Next step in rehab achieved. On target for Opening Day return.

Oh yeah-- the Italy v Mexico WBC game is on tonight at 7pm ET on Tubi. Yes Tubi. SURPRISE! Fortunately that app is free so there's at least a good streaming exclusive here since you can watch on any Internet enabled device.
