as much as i hate to admit it, getting atproto integrated into more developer tools and developer platforms is probably the quickest way to getting atproto installed in more consumer apps/platforms… gotta get the nerds hooked so they’ll add it to the things they make for consumers

It’s fun and exciting to put brand new things out there, but it’s more valuable to contribute to making existing open source things better as a community.

So what instead? I decided I’m going to redirect my spare capacity in this space to contributing to existing projects that I love and support.

Lower overhead in more manageable chunks of time and energy, and still getting to take part in this space (ATProto) I’m so energized by.

Honestly, I don’t. I have a family and a full time job, a local community I tend to, and plenty of other things taking my capacity already.

Creating new tools for people to use is alluring, but it’s not something I want to half-ass.

I’ve been planning and iterating on a new project but I find myself stalling. When I stop to think why, I think about the responsibility a person takes on when putting something new out into the world.

Do I have the capacity to give this thing the care it deserves when people start using it?

The gap between usable and good is immense

I tend to mention three layers: apps, data, and aggregation. That last one is the most cognitive heavy one but IMO one of the most important ones.

How content is filtered, sorted, labeled, etc, as an independent and pluggable layer is key to this whole thing working at scale.
