Yeah, thatβs the only sane response. I also donβt see a lot of poor people getting accused of selling outβis this a legit problem, or are famous folks being defensive?

08.03.2026 18:23 β π 8 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I think people have used "selling out" in two different, incompatible, senses for two different things. "Selling out" in the sense Scalzi talks about here -- taking paid work to earn a living -- has only ever been attacked by people who have never been poor, looking down at those who have.
08.03.2026 17:56 β π 46 π 12 π¬ 5 π 0Okay, I refuse to let go of the term βselling outβ while rich performers are getting paid to promote fucking gambling apps.
08.03.2026 18:15 β π 22 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Holy shit itβs 60 degrees outside.
08.03.2026 18:07 β π 4 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0It feels like heβs split between two different mechanics that have nothing to do with one another. (I managed one win with Void Form, which is easy to use at least.)
08.03.2026 13:55 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0THREAD: I got laid off from NYMag/Vulture after 14 years. The family lost 75% of income + medical. Now mzs.press bookstore, once a side project. is do-or-die for Judith & I. I feel weird telling you this because others are doing much worse. But if you could like or share this, we'd be so grateful!

08.03.2026 02:48 β π 20 π 1 π¬ 1 π 0that's a reasonable response. (i did eventually watch the whole thing at home. it was fine.)
07.03.2026 19:54 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0yes, but voters are also a large, infinitely complex system of wants and needs and assumptions. it's hard to yell at a blob to change and expect any result.
07.03.2026 19:43 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0i have fond memories of walking out on this when it was in theaters.
07.03.2026 19:41 β π 9 π 0 π¬ 3 π 0fascinating that they can create nuance between "persuasion" and "motivation" while failing to grasp basic facts. (thanks for pulling up an easy block, tho.)
07.03.2026 19:39 β π 14 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0ah, see, i thought you were stupid, but you're also hateful as well. free block!
07.03.2026 19:38 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0i feel like people got tricked by all the commentary lumping in The Sopranos and Breaking Bad and Mad Men. Don was often a selfish jackass, but he wasn't a murderer. (And weirdly, I don't think MM ever really suffered from "fans misreading the core text.")

i hope i get it
i really need this job
how many beasties does he need?
i'm weak, i've only ever watched the MST3K version, but it's an all-timer episode.
07.03.2026 18:32 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0gonna go out on a limb and bet she doesn't have any secret Nazi tattoos. (this used to be an easy bet to win!)
07.03.2026 18:14 β π 14 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0i think it's adjacent to the never-ending struggle of "is this cringe actually harmful or am i mocking it because it makes me feel better about myself"
07.03.2026 16:58 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0there's so much bad in the world but there's also people who lift up and carry an elderly bat around every day so he can pretend he's flying again, and that's the part of the world I think is worth fighting for
07.03.2026 15:46 β π 21415 π 6423 π¬ 87 π 158new Babylon 5 review is live for my patrons! this week we're looking at "Deathwalker," which impressed the hell out of me:
07.03.2026 16:25 β π 7 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0yeah, that's how i've been consoling myself lately. it's just hard to feel happy about it when you know how many people have to suffer before things get better.
07.03.2026 16:19 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0it would be great if it wasn't also fucking awful.
07.03.2026 16:14 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Daylight Savings change-over tonight, in case your life wasn't weird and stressful and exhausting enough.
07.03.2026 15:15 β π 15 π 1 π¬ 1 π 0Oh man, I'm jealous.
07.03.2026 14:55 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0this is very close to how the American remake of Life On Mars went. (the show wasn't the fantasy of a dying man, but it was the fantasy of a sleeping astronaut flying to Mars with his dad.)
07.03.2026 14:50 β π 12 π 1 π¬ 0 π 0here's my latest commissioned review, this time of a movie I'm quite fond of--Adam Wingard's gonzo thriller THE GUEST:
06.03.2026 21:04 β π 21 π 4 π¬ 4 π 1good game! i want to go home and play some more.
07.03.2026 14:46 β π 4 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0looking forward to some dipshit in a suit that doesn't fit them standing in the White House press room and explaining how "foot-powered cars, like those popularized in the Flintstones, are actually far cheaper and more reliable than gas guzzlers."
06.03.2026 21:14 β π 5 π 1 π¬ 0 π 0thank you!
06.03.2026 21:07 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0the review is free to everyone, but if you'd like to commission a movie review, go here (I've two more lined up already, but I'm always on the look out for more):
