first time ever getting a "T" french fry

I recently replaced my old reading pillow from high school with the Casper backrest pillow. I’m not usually one to promo stuff but this pillow is amazing for reading in bed (and also feeding a baby!)

A feel like a lot of stationery / desk organizers are pictured with paper clips. When’s the last time anyone used a paper clip?!

- oh wait, I need to unload the dishwasher to put in new stuff that needs to be cleaned
- now it's 30 min later and the baby is already asleep – I guess bath next time! 😵‍💫

- oh wait, to do that, I need to first wash all the bottle parts left in the basin
-oh wait, the bottle rack has is already full, let me store away whatever is dry
- ok some of this should probably be sterilized so I should put it in the dishwasher

the mental gymnastics of parenting is severely under-appreciated (like most things associated with domestic labor).

like, to merely get the bath ready using our kitchen sink:

- need to first clear the kitchen sink so if we need to dump pee-tainted bath water we don't do it over our dishes

I checked out Books of Wonder for the first time today, the oldest independent children's book store in NYC. Such a cool shop. I like how they organized books by concepts.

helping to AC for CHI. I've ACed for other conferences, but never one of this scale. we had to bid on 257 papers (!!). no wonder reviewers have fatigue...makes me recognize how important titles are for representing your paper because at some point you don't have the energy to fully read abstracts

It’s unfortunate that most people still need to be productive even if they’re on leave. 😑

I’m struggling to be productive because most tasks I need to do require time to sit down and think or work uninterrupted which is impossible with a newborn

- chinese bakery risoprints from FIYE. my favorite is the hot dog bun pastry, which I unexpectedly missed eating when I was pregnant! they slot into these very cute frames that look like the trays you get in chinese bakeries.

- this memo book of ming inspired fashion illustrations from sarula bao who has created very cool covers for the new yorker (and the first riso cover for them)

- this super cute risoprint with an illustration from the brooklyn art book fair. never been to that event myself but have always loved the illustrations for it, which are by thomas colligan

things I was excited to get:
- rose wong's book of towns risoprint book. I am a huge fan of her work!

went to a similar zine / art book festival in Seattle while living there, but the NYC one is like 5x as big, with people coming from all over the world to exhibit. 😀

I got to go to the Printed Matter Art Book Fair today (first time I went to an event in the city after having a baby!). Since I had been in 2018 and 2019 when I previously lived in the city, it was awesome to get to experience it again at MOMA PS1.

Pretty amazed they're bringing back virtual boy. Brings me back to demoing it at Toys r Us as a kid (the only time I've played)

it hasn't applied to any books I've purchased so far, but I find comic sans permissible for children's books. it seems like the most appropriate use of that font.

I am probably one of the more annoying parents when it comes to buying books because I will vet every page to make sure the typography doesn't look wonky, the illustrations are good, and that the storyline isn't going to be annoying for me to read aloud.
