07.12.2025 00:49 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0but he was so nice and we just talked about random stuff about MIT and Toronto. I just remember feeling like he was a warm, kind soul that could get along with anyone. RIP.
19.11.2025 01:35 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0kind of embarrassing, but I didn't know anything about him. but they sent me an email the day of telling me where to go and linking to his wikipedia page -- I remember clicking the link and being so intimidated because he is a legend!! en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brian_C...
19.11.2025 01:34 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0this is such a small thing but when I interviewed at the UofT iSchool in 2018, he wasn't on my schedule, but they squeezed in a time for me to meet him in his office.

19.11.2025 01:31 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0The deadline was ~1 month after my son was born so my memory is sort of hazy.
It does make me think about how many exception requests I get from my students though, and how in the real world you can literally have over a years worth of work disregarded because of a formatting error.
I had a paper desk rejected from CHI because I for some reason submitted 2 column instead of 1 column ๐ญ
A full paper submission to CHI is an incredible amount of work, so this was really sad for me. I even have the paper on arxiv in 1 column, so somehow got mixed up and reformatted?
I stopped by the capsule towers a few times while living in tokyo...it still looked wild in person but a little run down (perhaps that's why they took it down)
12.11.2025 01:38 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 1 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0moma has an exhibition about the tokyo capsule towers that got taken down a couple years ago. and a super cute stacking blocks game to go along with it :D store.moma.org/products/blo...

29.09.2025 00:39 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0I recently replaced my old reading pillow from high school with the Casper backrest pillow. Iโm not usually one to promo stuff but this pillow is amazing for reading in bed (and also feeding a baby!)

24.09.2025 17:33 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0I recently got a laser measuring tool for the first time and it feels so empowering. I feel like you can make a video game out of this interaction. hototools.com/products/sma...
24.09.2025 13:37 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0- oh wait, I need to unload the dishwasher to put in new stuff that needs to be cleaned
- now it's 30 min later and the baby is already asleep โ I guess bath next time! ๐ตโ๐ซ
- oh wait, to do that, I need to first wash all the bottle parts left in the basin
-oh wait, the bottle rack has is already full, let me store away whatever is dry
- ok some of this should probably be sterilized so I should put it in the dishwasher
the mental gymnastics of parenting is severely under-appreciated (like most things associated with domestic labor).
like, to merely get the bath ready using our kitchen sink:
- need to first clear the kitchen sink so if we need to dump pee-tainted bath water we don't do it over our dishes
I checked out Books of Wonder for the first time today, the oldest independent children's book store in NYC. Such a cool shop. I like how they organized books by concepts.

20.09.2025 18:12 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Before I worked at apple I switched between Android and iOS every few years. Interesting that the call screening feature is just coming to ios as I remember first using this on Android over 5 years ago.

20.09.2025 01:33 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0So I know muji has an insulated plastic bottle water holder which makes sense given the popularity of vending machines in Japan. Has anyone made a similar insulated container for takeout bubble tea? www.muji.us/products/kee...

I've ACed for other conferences, but never one of this scale. we had to bid on 257 papers (!!). no wonder reviewers have fatigue...makes me recognize how important titles are for representing your paper because at some point you don't have the energy to fully read abstracts
