This female Barred Buttonquail was upset with me getting close to her male. She turned, looked straight at me, fluffed up feathers, bowed down & called out. This 'bluffing behavior' is to threaten a perceived 'predator'. She won.

Huge news! A new species of butterfly for Britain found today at Landguard Bird Observtory by Will Brame - Southern Small White!
Will's kindly shared his photo with us - what an excellent find by him.
It's not been seen since the time of finding, but surely more will follow...
Male Lumpsuckers can pink up when breeding, I've seen them like that in rock pools near us.

Watercolour painting of rocks and fossils found on the beach at Redcar, northeast England - bivalves, ammonites, crinoids, calcite-veined mudstone, Gryphaea, banded limestone, ironstone and a mix of marine fossils in limestone.
Redcar rocks and fossils - though itβs only a few miles south of where I live, the geology of Redcar is completely different, and younger; Jurassic marine fossils are ridiculously easy to find lying on the beach.
(Watercolour; others still on show at Redcar Contemporary Art Gallery)
