They've always been around the Northumberland coastal areas. When we moved in there were 2 birds in winter so up went a dozen next boxes and the numbers grew to 30. But now I fear that is reducing slowly...

Best morn ever with Chips 1st photo, & Gravy 2nd. I was wrong about Chips knocking he/she clacks so still can’t sex them 🙄 Interestingly today Gravy came 1st he/she quite nervous & didn’t come close until Chips came in calling and tumbling then he/she was brave & they groomed. Video in comments.

How extraordinary it was to see a Eurasian Scops Owl tonight, locally here in Gower, and in December of all months! A fabulous little bird that was hunting in a suburban park. #GowerBirds #ScopsOwl @gowerbirds.bsky.social

Tricky to count the spugs in the garden but this week, max House Sparrows 52, max Tree Sparrows 15 ( today) .
Seems the days of 30+ Tree Sparrows have gone, but they are still resident all year...

Recently read Wild America. It's an account of Petersen guiding Fisher around the States doing a year list. I enjoyed it, but it was more of a travelogue than birding diary...a reflection of the times I suppose. Autumn Shetland birders don't really know what 'hard graft' is...

I went every summer when it was away. I missed it at Hauxley when I was on one side of the reserve while it was on the other, I missed it at Cresswell...

Lesser Crested Tern in Devon today. It's not a bird we hear a lot of in recent years. When we had 'Elsie' on the Farnes for several summers it still took me about 4 years to see it! After many dips at many locations, finally great views at it's nest scrape were had.
