08.12.2025 19:31 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0On this day in 1797 abolitionist Peter Peckard died. Heβs often overlooked but he was a vital influence for Thomas Clarkson and thereβs a notable absence of slave/plantation owners where he lived and preached. He was buried in Peterborough Cathedral where thereβs a lovely ledger stone

If youβre in Peterborough, your donation will go to funding Thorpe Hall, a resource you hope you never need but is there if you do.

Alex is standing next to a wooden wall with yellow gloves sticking out. There's a big puddle of water in the frame, and we can see Alex's reflection but NOT Nick's, because Vampires don't have reflections.
In S17 of #Taskmaster, Nick Mohammed dressed as a vampire for his tasks. The production scrubbed all his reflections when he's dressed like this, but the only way I knew is because someone told me about it. It's subtle and very cool.

On the right, the soldier's face is heavily bandaged, and he has a coat thrown over his shoulders. In the background are various soldiers working and moving around.
During #WWI, medics applied 1.5 million splints, fitted over 20,000 artificial eyes & used 7,250 tons of cotton wool while applying 108 million bandages to injured soldiers. More than 6,000 medics died & over 17,000 were wounded in the British Army alone.

We need to explore the full extent of the damage done by restorative practice with minimal sanctions.

In 1825, a woman called Sarah Wallis accused her employer of fabricating a theft.
She made this accusation on the church doorstep in front of the entire congregation.
She refused to apologise.
GUESS WHAT HAPPENED NEXT?
This week's Friday Murder... I almost didn't finish. Sometimes, I get about halfway through and I think... why am I telling this story?
I think it is so important, as a homicide historian, to never lose sight of why I am telling a particular story. It should never be voyeurism.
