Global antibiotic pipeline is “worryingly thin” as big pharma slows and smaller firms struggle to fill the gap. Low-income countries face access shortages, pushing the need for action & smart incentives to drive new drug development. #AMR #GlobalHealth

Antibiotic use in agriculture is higher in total volume than in human medicine in many countries. That said, the types of antibiotics, dosing patterns, and resistance dynamics differ, which is why stewardship is needed across all sectors, human medicine, dentistry, and food production alike.
I’m not sure about the specific claim regarding Ron Paul. What matters for me is that antibiotics should be used carefully. Antibiotics don’t treat viral infections like the common cold, and preserving their effectiveness requires responsible prescribing and public understanding of AMS.
It is time for the dental profession to take a more active role in national action plans against #AMR and to engage systematically in antibiotic stewardship. AMR is a shared challenge that requires dentistry to make a clear contribution to stewardship efforts.

Bridging surveillance, risk assessment, and intervention will require closer integration of research, public health, and environmental governance under the One Health framework.
Antibiotic use in Australia is lower than a decade ago, and hospitals use last-line antibiotics carefully. However, rising #AMR and inconsistent prescribing, especially after surgery and in geriatrics, highlight the need to strengthen antimicrobial stewardship.

Vaccines are powerful tools against #AMR. By preventing infections, they reduce antibiotic use and slow the spread of resistant microbes. Expanding global access to effective vaccines is essential to preserving the antibiotics we depend on.

US sales of medically important antibiotics for farm animals rose 16% 2023-24. When regulatory agencies & public health guidance are being weakened, expecting the tighter controls needed to curb the trend feels more like wishful thinking than policy

Plasmid-borne tet(X4) in Klebsiella inactivates tigecycline and spreads between bacteria.
Its association with other last-line resistance genes represents a serious #OneHealth #AMR challenge.
#AMR is real and growing. Misuse today means untreatable infections tomorrow. Public awareness matters, but we need leaders to step up with strong policies, regulation, and investment to protect antibiotics as a shared global resource.
