27.06.2025 20:08 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Everyone I met was very nice and my main contact in particular struck me as capable and well-intentioned; but it was poisoning the well of crowdfunding - which I remain a believer in- and I'm very glad of my near miss. Thanks for this insight - hope you find good bridges to replace the ones you burn
02.06.2025 04:49 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0I just stopped mentioning it at all once I discovered the near criminal, profit skimming amounts that they were charging for postage and the dismissive way they were treating backers I had an established relationship with - it felt like donating my own store of goodwill to build them a firewall.
02.06.2025 04:49 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0I quiet quit my funding campaign once it became clear that the idea was to trick my non existent rich relatives into crowdfunding a rather lavish publishing house rather than to crowdfund the book.

People bell on about stuff that doesn't matter but ask people from bands. They'll tell you the truth - that Clem Burke was the greatest of all time. We will not see his like again. The world is so much worse now.

I would like to apologise to non-orc members of the horde for misrepresenting their capacity to understand orcish in footnote 83 of the otherwise unimpeachable Avenue QAnon lyric book. It was not my intention to conflate race and culture in this way and I will reflect and do better in future.

13.03.2025 15:42 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Interesting, yeah. Good spot anyway - the phrase that stuck out for me was 'defiantly orange' which *is* a clichรฉ, but also is a figurative connection that you'd really require embodied experience of seeing colours in the world to come up with. I'm not sure what I think about it though.
13.03.2025 15:42 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0But my reaction to a human author repurposing it in that way would be as it is to the two authors who have repurposed it as a title - to accept that ironic (or otherwise) referencing is valid. But, you're right, clichรฉ is too far.
13.03.2025 15:32 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Fair point.
13.03.2025 15:27 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 2 ๐ 0Which suggests this is all just wine expertise for scribblers - everybody pompously asking the wrong questions to avoid exposure for as long as possible.
13.03.2025 15:25 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Or at least: that is just as good a piece of lit crit as the nitpicky critique of the motivated critic.
13.03.2025 15:21 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Bit it isn't particularly poorly chosen, actually. 'Ghosts' implies that the voices which direct the LLMs training are dead *to it* - which is a provocative use of the Nabokovian clichรฉ that subverts and repurposes it to highlight the authority of dead human text in the cosmology of an AI...
13.03.2025 15:21 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0It is better chosen in the original I suppose - referring directly to the dead - so maybe he would.
13.03.2025 15:18 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Would this guy like the phrase if it was Nabakov's?
