Earlier today someone Stinky doesn't know came over & he was his usual friendly, loving self. They were just stopping by, though, & left pretty quickly.
Stinky was just gobsmacked.
Sad.
And immediately asked for a treat because he was sad that they left.

For 100 days, this community has done everything in our power to protect and care for our neighbors.
And today, Jacob Frey failed to do the bare minimum and give neighbors time to recover and put their lives back together.

I’m proud to be Latino. Sadly, my community has been disproportionately impacted by “Operation Metro Surge” and has literally been forced back into the shadows.
It’s very well known that elected officials have always disregarded my community and our livelihood.
The little people will win one day.
Don’t talk about how much you support immigrants or want ICE out if you support throwing my community out into the cold.
You’re now responsible for people self deporting, not having enough money to feed their families, and their displacement. You’re just like ICE.

I doubt landlords have contemplated systemic collapse. Covid came with relief funds. And the loss on one evicted family terrorizes ten more into paying rent and skimping on food or medical care. But that system is fragile already. They won’t know what hit them when it shatters.
This is one of the things that really shows how shortsighted Frey's decision is. Landlords rarely get paid when they evict someone, even in the long run. In MN, you can't collect rent on an eviction judgment; you need to sue separately. And most rent assistance won't pay arrears for prior residences
This is the thing! The landlords aren’t getting that money back! Their income depends on renters!
Has anyone in Frey’s office read a book? Any book? Not written by Dale Carnegie or Malcom Gladwell?
These non-profit affordable housing developers are the reason the mayor vetoed extending the pre-eviction notification period from 30 to 60 days. Not one more dime from me; those dollars are going directly to mutual aid from now on.

So it's been amazing to see all the rent relief fundraising. Absolutely incredible. But it gets to me that the end result of all this is the money goes to line landlord pockets. And yes families stay housed. That's vital. But it's all of us every day regular degular citizens sacrificing for it.
