We're literally asking our local & State govt to grant both tenants & legislators/&c the time necessary to secure funding—some of that funding we're asking local & State govt to provide. Because the federal govt attacked civilians & caused humanitarian & economic crisis. Asking LLs to stand with us.

And what really sticks in my craw: when people talk about "mom and pop" landlords they're referencing people who rent out a small # of single-family homes, duplexes, etc. Well, those LLs are sitting on assets that have increased in value by >200% over the past 25 yrs. It backstops the whole affair!

People's focus on this alone is at some point refusal to acknowledge the fact that many people at the helm of the money secured/in the process of being secured are shouting that all they need is a little time allotted for the bureaucracy of distributing those funds on behalf of the impacted tenants.

How many struggling restaurants have you seen publicly work to help provide food or raise funds? How many retail or grocery stores? How many bars? How many churches?

Now ask why you don’t see landlords show up like nearly everyone else has?

If they want goodwill, they can earn it

Seriously, landlords are business owners. No one guarantees to other business owners that they will never, ever have a bad month or two.

Why is it always presumed that a landlord cannot be asked to weather a bit of a bumpy ride for a short period, but tenants must do everything right or face the consequences? If a landlord can't handle a limited amount of arrears, they shouldn't be in business.

In my personal experience, both enforcing the moratorium at the AG's office and with the tenants I advised at HOME Line, landlords left a ton of money on the table by refusing to work with rental assistance agencies or totally failing to do what what asked of them (literally sign a form)

Even during the literal worst of the pandemic, before major rental assistance came online towards the end of the year, landlords in Minnesota were getting >93% of their rent by the end of the month

This is something that has always bothered me: landlords always talk about COVID like they were absolutely gutted. But this massive study by a national trade org, which was conducted on a month-to-month basis, shows the industry never took a bath

UREGENT AID NEEDED On January 22nd Miriam and her 18-year old daughter Sandra were targeted and pulled over by ICE. Miriam and Sandra were forced out of their vehicle at gunpoint. Miriam was aggressively thrown to the ground and handcuffed, despite informing ICE agents she was 5 months pregnant.

UREGENT AID NEEDED Upon arrival at the Whipple building, daughter Sandra was given a pregnancy test and tested positive. Both mother and daughter were sent to Texas. For weeks, Miriam was experiencing severe and abnormal pregnancy symptoms, and frequently requested to see a doctor. It wasn't until she fainted and was visibly in a dangerous state that the other women in the detention center organized a noise demonstration; chanting and pleading for Miriam to receive medical help.

I got this today after paying a family’s back rent to stop an eviction that had been filed. I feel that weight in my bones, and I’m glad she gets to sleep tonight. No one should ever have to feel that fear.
