This is great -- thanks for your efforts and the documentation. We've got it up and running for tERK stains. Some kinks for us work out but running registrations in a few seconds is so very satisfying!

Correlative light and electron microscopy reveals the fine circuit structure underlying evidence accumulation in larval zebrafish Accumulating information is a critical component of most circuit computations in the brain across species, yet its precise implementation at the synaptic level remains poorly understood. Dissecting su...

We are proud to present our new preprint โ€œCorrelative light and electron microscopy reveals the fine circuit structure underlying evidence accumulation in larval zebrafishโ€, just posted on bioRxiv (www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1...). (1/10)

Indeed, we think it could be!

Surprisingly (at least to us!), we observed that some mutants actually habituate a bit more than their sibling controls when exposed to estradiol. So, we think these receptors do influence habituationโ€”but they weakly suppress it, rather than promote it.

Hormone-induced thrombosis is mediated through non-canonical fibrin(ogen) aggregation and a novel estrogen target in zebrafish Venous thrombosis is a well-known complication of sex hormone therapy, with onset typically within weeks to months after initiation. Worldwide, more than 100 million pre-menopausal women use combined ...

This is unexpected but not unheard of, and has been observed in a few other contexts. @clot1.bsky.social 's group recently reported a similar finding on thrombosis in zebrafish:
doi.org/10.1101/2024....
We think there is another critical estradiol target that awaits characterization.

To test this we used mutants generated by @danielgorelick.bsky.social โ€˜s lab. Disappointingly, we found that none of the receptors were necessary. We spent the next few years combining mutants to test for redundancy, but we concluded that none of these receptors promote habituation.

Functional and pharmacological analyses of visual habituation learning in larval zebrafish Complex and distributed plasticity processes are revealed by a functional and pharmacological analysis of visual habituation learning in larval zebrafish.

This follows up on a hit from our drug screen showing that estradiol increases habituation: doi.org/10.7554/eLif... . We expected this effect would be mediated by one of the known estrogen receptorsโ€”ERฮฑ, ERฮฒ, or the G protein-coupled receptor Gper1.

Estradiol promotes habituation learning via an unidentified target, bypassing the suppressive effects of established Estrogen Receptors Habituating to the constant stimuli in the environment is a critical learning process conserved across species. We use a larval zebrafish visual response to sudden darkness as a model for studying hab...

Our latest work is now up on bioRxiv. It describes our attempts to identify the receptor that mediates the effect of estradiol on habituation learning in larval zebrafish.

Sensation is dispensable for the maturation of the vestibulo-ocular reflex Vertebrates stabilize gaze using a neural circuit that transforms sensed instability into compensatory counterrotation of the eyes. Sensory feedback tunes this vestibulo-ocular reflex throughout life....

Big paper from @paigel.bsky.social in our lab:

Sensory feedback is always crucial for proper development, right? Wrong!

Crazier still, the motor system is the slowest part of a developing reflex circuit!

Surprises abound in this bluetorial cโ€™mon alongโ€ฆ.
