yeah! i currently play VB on my 3DS, but it would've been nice to have a way to stream those games to twitch without people immediately going "Hey, how'd you do that?"

if i emulate on twitch I like there being at least plausible deniability, like it COULD be real hardware, but with VB, it won't be

i think the most disappointing thing about the virtual boy stuff on switch is that if it requires the headset to play, it means they're unstreamable. And i would LOVE spending an entire stream playing Jack Bros, Wario Land, or Innsmouth no Yakata.

I guess I could find other ways to do it, but...

EA released Skate and Split Fiction last year
Activision released Tony Hawk 3+4 last year
Sega released Shinobi Art of Vengeance last year

AA games are still being made

but this conversation has lost the plot- if you dont wanna play HIghguard don't play it but it deserves to be given a fair shot

It definitely would've given it a fairer shot than having it hyped up as a *show-ending surprise* at the game awards

there's some level of streisand-effect going on with this game at present which is leading to a lot of attention but wayyy too much of it is negative

AA games are mid-budget games made by large studios; not independent, and they always have been. Things like Bully by Rockstar, versus GTA San Andreas.

but literally none of this matters because no one knows the budget that you're basing this entire argument on

but now we're getting into the minutiae over what constitutes as indie; the game is developed by an independent company made up of ex-EA/ex-Respawn employees and is self-published, and i think that absolutely qualifies as indie

Yeah, agree; but the game does exist on consoles as well and the anticheat shouldn't be an indicator of the quality of the game itself

it runs great on consoles (60fps even on Series S!) and has cross-platform play out of the box

also: "we don't know how much it cost to make" and then saying "if games are going to cost this much they should reflect that" are two conflicting statements, this isn't a AAA game by a AAA studio and even if it were, budget is not an indicator of quality

i think the biggest issue is that anyone has any expectations at all; the game was advertised in one trailer at the game awards by a fanboy that thought it was neat and people are basing all opinions on that

even if it is currently a 6/10 people are treating it as a 1/10, sight unseen

Im not saying it's a perfect game, it definitely has some rough spots, but it has a good base

it lacks a lot of guidelines and information, it should've only launched with one map (with more to come) to help people learn it... but i think it has a lot of potential

ive been playing it on PS5 and it's actually fun once you get over the initial hump of "How the fuck do i play this game"

it's like counterstrike with some battle-royale-style looting between rounds, and the more i play it the more i like it

i also think that people are immediately bouncing off of it because it's a new game and there's no defined "meta" to follow and no one wants to play a game like this blind and figure it out for themselves

also having kernel-level anticheat on PC that requires secureboot is a huge mistake

hot take that shouldn't actually be a hot take

Highguard isn't a bad game, in fact it's a fun game that has a few issues that likely will get ironed out as the game evolves

mishandling the game's advertising has so negatively affected its public perception that people aren't giving it a fair shot
