Group photograph of the participants of the meeting in front of a screen displaying the logo of the association.

It was a pleasure to host the first in-person meeting of the DACH Regional Group of the ICLHE Association in Graz with Petra Kletzenbauer. Now we're all looking forward to the ICLHE Symposium in Winterthur (15-16 Oct 2026). The call is still open: www.iclhe.org/conferences-...

A photograph of the main building of the University of Graz in winter. The main building of the University of Pécs on a sunny day.

Judit Dombi (University of Pécs) and I compared our student teachers' Extramural English use and their plans for teaching English as a global language and found many similarities and some differences. Our paper has just been published in ExELL: doi.org/10.51558/230...

Group photograph of the participants and experts at the IAPLL doctoral school. A photograph of the venue of the doctoral school (University of Graz).

I'm honoured to have been a part of the first doctoral school of the International Association for the Psychology of Language Learning (IAPLL). I enjoyed spending time with the participants and hope that our paths will cross again in the future.

People listen to the words of a student representative at a vigil for the victims of the school shooting at BORG Dreierschützengasse secondary school in Graz, Austria. A sticker with a stylised depiction of a rose and the German words Wir halten zusammen and their English translation, we stand together. The stickers were handed out at the vigil for the victims of the school shooting on 10 June 2025.

The cover of "The Library of Lost Books" The blurb of "The Library of Lost Books": Two 15-year-old teenagers travel through the infinite world of the library of lost books. What are they going to discover on the journey? Join them on their adventures through time and space. A photo of the flyleaf with the signatures of the students who contributed to the book.

When a reading project becomes a writing project: The Library of Lost Books was written by a group of 14-year-old students and their English teacher Heidrun Lang-Heran at Körösi secondary school here in Graz. I managed to get my copy signed by most of the authors, and I can't wait to start reading!

A collage of DLC (Dominant Language Constellation) artefacts created by Austrian student teachers of English.

Inspired by @nayr2.bsky.social a group of Austrian student teachers of English created their own DLC artefacts today. We all loved the results!

A sign advertising "Pécsi Kave" (Pécs coffee), with the English words "coffee & more" below. The silhouette of the mosque which is the symbol of Pécs forms the background of the sign. A decorative sign showing the word "Welcome" surrounded by a wreath of leaves and berries. The abbreviations of the days of the week in the information about opening hours below it are in Hungarian. The Mosque of Pasha Qasim in Pécs, Hungary, one of the symbols of the city. Built by Pasha Qasim the Victorious between 1543 and 1546, converted into a church in 1702 after Habsburg-Hungarian troops reconquered the city.

As always, there were lots of interesting talks and workshops at IATEFL, but I particularly enjoyed this format because it allowed a thoughtful, thorough exploration of the topic. I would love to see more such sessions at #IATEFL2026 🙂

Group photograph: a group of student teachers from the University of Graz on the steps in front of the Pentland Auditorium at Edinburgh International Conference Centre.

If you want to see #IATEFL2025 through the eyes of student teachers, our group from the University of Graz did a wonderful job documenting their experiences on Instagram: @leap_interface. For most of them, it was their first IATEFL conference 😊 but I think we'll see them at IATEFL again!
