I'm looking forward to manifesting a new assessment future together with the support of this amazing network of culturally responsive evaluation and assessment professionals.

Had the opportunity to present on culturally specific assessment, QuantCrit and on the convergence of both of those research directions. It was encouraging to hear from others how they are enacting culturally responsive assessment in the current political environment.

Was wonderful seeing friends and colleagues at this year's CREA Conference. Spent the week engaged in workshops, seminars, and presentations. Met many new colleagues and heard from others about their approach to conducting culturally responsive evaluation and assessment.

Indigenous culturally specific assessment developers are political actors and their culturally specific assessment development practices, offered in response to measurement disjuncture, serve as political acts of intellectual amplification and Indigenous sovereignty that challenge

With culturally specific assessment formally defined, I situate my work on the development of such assessments within an overarching environmental space I named the disjuncture response dialectic (Sul, 2021). Under this framework,

(4) is focused on constructs and measures of importance to (educational) practitioners and other key stakeholders; and (5) functions within a system of knowledge that exists within a named worldview (Sul, 2019).

Culturally specific assessment is defined as assessment that: (1) supports the (academic) development of (people); (2) is inclusive of a willingness to nurture and support cultural competence; (3) aims to support the development of a sociopolitical or critical consciousness within students;

Yes, and, reliance on standardized measures that do not account for the strengths and needs of these pupils, can contribute to maintaining such patterns. We must think about the broader impact of the research questions we pose and, in particular, the data used to answer them.

Culturally specific assessments are offered as a means to the problem of measurement disjuncture.

b) individuals from purposefully marginalized groups cannot receive credit for what they know outside of the dominant culture; and c) individuals from marginalized groups must change the complexion of their being in order participate in the assessment activity.

Practically, some effects of measurement disjuncture are a) it penalizes individuals with limited exposure to the dominant culture producing the assessment instrument;

In quantitative educational research studies, the presence of measurement disjuncture leads to an increase in the Type II error rate. In manners that are both qualitative and quantitative, measurement disjuncture negatively affects the establishment of measurement validity.

Measurement disjuncture affects the establishment of measurement validity, and, hence, the inferences made based on the scores derived from such assessments. This is primarily due to the introduction of measurement error caused by the misalignment.

Measurement disjuncture (Sul, 2019) refers to the misalignment that occurs when elements of an instrument development process from one worldview are applied to the instrument development process of another worldview.

Educational research findings often rely on evidence obtained through the use of standardized assessment instruments constructed within a particular worldview.
