Russell Vought is breaking apart the National Center for Atmospheric Research, which has led advances in whether and climate science. Some of its components will transfer to private companies, part of larger efforts to privatize science.

Chicago getting ready to stand up for Science!
NEW: The bad news about international-student enrollments at American colleges just got worse. An exclusive @chronicle.com analysis of just-released State Department data shows new visa issuances in the summer of 2025 dropped by more than a third. www.chronicle.com/article/the-...

After 5 years of developing, a new preprint from the lab - introducing our workflow for comparative insect connectomics, aimed at democratizing connectomics. @erc.europa.eu @lundvision.bsky.social @biologylu.bsky.social Read it here: www.biorxiv.org/content/10.6...
"never been seen" - maybe not by humans, but I bet species with UV cones in their retinas can see it!
Our new paper is now out showing how time perception in animals is linked to their ecology. Using data from 237 species we show temporal perception is faster in species that fly and pursuit predators www.nature.com/articles/s41... 🌐
So, while we are in the street standing up for science and the scientists who can’t risk standing up for theirselves…you’re what? In your lab? Keeping your head down in “resistance”?*
*ppl at risk are not included in this!!!
Do better. Grow a spine.
Maybe science organizations don’t want to play outside game. FINE. 1. Apologize to your people for not responding well & 2. Support some activists who are doing the dirty work you can’t be bothered to do.
Not a SINGLE science org or society has donated to @standupforscience.bsky.social
@jenna-m-norton.bsky.social said it perfectly: now is the moment for people in power to get up and do a little multitasking for the folks in our scientific ecosystem who are most at risk because of the attack on science and democracy.
It’s a privilege to get to keep your head down while ICE…
The fundamental flaw with @holdenthorp.bsky.social’s argument is thinking that organizations and people can only do one thing at a time (even though he is really close to acknowledging it!)
Let’s break it down, bc I’m tired of this. 🧵

The chief of NIAMS, Lindsey Criswell, has told her staff that her 5-year leadership appointment had not been renewed, meaning 16 out of 27 NIH institutes and centers will be operating without a permanent director. https://scim.ag/4cr5wHI
The collapse of curiosity driven research has occurred in STEM too. Everything has to be outcomes focused - cure disease, grow better crops, etc. But so much of what humanity has discovered is from "basic" curiosity-driven science. I'm hugely in favor of funding curiosity in every discipline.
