I am CONSTANTLY proud of my hubby! His creativity, passion, follow-through, and generosity.
I am so lucky to share my life with him.

He designed the game he's referencing (A Wizardologist Most Hexasperated). Including art!

And, check out TYEP @southernequality.bsky.social They're amazing!

No. The governors of Minnesota, New York, and South Dakota lowered the flags in their states. There was no federal action.

Inaccessible public lands are essentially private land for the surrounding property holders.

The owner interviewed here is a prime example. He is deciding the usage of public land, while BLM forks over funding to maintain it. Exclusive use of the land without paying a cent.

This picture is not me, nor does it belong to me; this is from iStock and I'm using it to show the style to which I'm referring in the post. This is a heeled boot paired with bootcut jeans. The model's foreground leg is lifted behind her, bent at the knee, revealing that the length of the jeans is too long to be worn with flats, as the jeans will skim the ground when the leg is extended in the heeled boots she is wearing.

Devolving 20 years? Yes.

My beloved high school (the aughts) go-to: heeled ankle boots & mid-rise ("low-rise" now 🫠) bootcut jeans are FINALLY gracing us all once again.

Share in my joy of #jeans that require a heel πŸ‘  & give you legs for days!!! 🦡🦡

Pic not mine; used as reference.

TBH, I loved this game. The Christmas theme and tile-laying, but not the actual tile-laying, were enjoyable and relaxing. Meandering routes and adorable goals made it even better.

The best is when you do it more than once on the same seam. 🫣

Seeing you're a scandian, at least it's not a serged seam?

Same mindset here. Like, you have to iron your fabric and pattern tissue before cutting just to get pieces to match. Then pressing seams as you go so they all line up. And really, why spend all that time and not have a nicely pressed garment to show off?

DINOSAURS!!!

My darling husband, @nickferris.bsky.social, took gorgeous photos of me being silly at Dinosaur Land in VA, in a skirt I sewed & embroidered! 16 different dinosaurs adorn the hem, and we found almost all of them at the park!

Thank you! It's coming together better than I envisioned. This little nail-biter has been full of construction decisions I wavered on far too much.

Knee-length dark green wool melton cloak on my dress form. Cloak has a mandarin collar and a shaped hem. The cloak has a rolled ivory serged hem (aka satin stitched edge). The lining is also ivory. 6 buttons show the final placement but have not been sewn on. Cloak is a work in progress. Decorative stitching sample for the hem (white thread on dark green wool melton). This was needed to verify sizing and positioning and to ensure the stitch could curve without warping the design.

Update on the cloak I've been working on!

#Sewing progress:
- Fully assembled w/ lining & facing
- Serged rolled hem

Remaining:
- Detail hemstitching w/ light beading
- Front closure (fancy straps w/ buttons)

Grid view of 6 iterations of Simplicity's 5006 corset pattern. From top left: cosplay of Princess Celestia, cosplay of Sleeping Beauty, cosplay of Princess Belle. From bottom left: brown and gold metallic linen undergarment with tiered petticoat, cosplay of Cruella Devil, and lavender and gold metallic linen corset with white Victorian petticoat.

With 6 versions, this corset definitely takes the top spot. I've used it as the outer corset for 4 cosplays (Sleeping Beauty, Cruella, Belle, and Celestia), and twice for proper undergarments. In fact, almost every single one of the cosplays I make are based on the shape this corset gives me. AND: the white version (on Celestia) was made for my wedding!

This is the best intro corset pattern out there. If you can get your hands on it, do so. It's by far the highest rated in my collection, simplest, and I recommended it countless times. I even bought a second pattern to have an untouched corset pattern for better sizing if I need to use it for someone else. I have traced and adjusted mine according to my shape over the years too.

My first iterations (1-3) used cotton duck/twill as the foundation fabric.
Iterations 3-6 have Cotton Coutil for the foundation. You can find it for cheap on Tutu.com.
Various fashion fabrics including metallic linen, twill, pleather, and taffeta. All use straight and spiral steel bones (yes, they're super comfy!).

A little #memademay2025 for y'all! Here's my most-made sewing pattern: Simplicity 5006. Obvs, needing a proper corset is imperative to cosplay, and this is my go-to.

Me in an orange 60s-inspired dress, holding a basket of tulips in a tulip field viewed from the front. The dress’s main color is orange and has a red hem band and peter pan collar. The detailing on the dress comes from the left of the dress on the hem and from the right of the dress shoulder over to the back waist seam. The detailing on the dress was done with satin rattail cording and various sizes of glass pearl beads. Sewing a vintage-inspired wardrobe is soooo much fun! Here's a retrofuturistic dress with crazy satin cording and glass bead details. And tulips, because tulips.

My wonderful husband, @nickferris.bsky.social, is the genius behind the lens!

Front of gathered ivory skirt. The waistband has a center notch, and there is light embroidery on the front in tonal beige. The center front of the skirt is not gathered to reduce bulk at the waist and provide a more flattering fit. The skirt hem is tonal guipure lace, which originally made up the edges of the tablecloth. Back of gathered ivory skirt. The back of the skirt is fully gathered to the center back invisible zipper. Two strips of fabric are attached in the waistband and hang down the back for added interest. The skirt hem is tonal guipure lace, which originally made up the edges of the tablecloth. Closeup of the guipure lace edging on the vintage tablecloth. The lace is in tonal beiges to provide a slight contrast to the ivory fabric. The pattern alternates between petaled flowers and fleur-de-lis style flowers. Closeup of the guipure lace edging on the vintage tablecloth. Transformed a vintage tablecloth into a skirt! With gorgeous guipure lace edging, it was perfect for a gathered skirt. Though simple, I took extra care for pattern placement in the waistband. Features: pockets and notched waist.

Thanks @nickferris.bsky.social for the challenge!

Guard to Support Inauguration with 7,800 Personnel The National Guard will support the 60th presidential inauguration on Jan. 20 with about 7,800 Soldiers and Airmen, according to Maj. Gen. John Andonie, the commanding general of the District of Colum...

It's pretty common for a lot of states/territories. Here's an article from the NGAUS: www.ngaus.org/newsroom/gua...

The inauguration itself (well, an outdoor one with a parade) needs 25,000+ security personnel. I was at Obama's 2nd; this operation is no small turkey.

I am not one to comment normally on appearances, but the falsies this person was outfitted with at her hearing were...excessive. Even I don't wear falsies that dense and blockish for cosplay photoshoots and conventions!

Side-by-side pictures of Elena of Avalor, in her pants outfit with lace-up brown knee-high boots, jeans, and belted cream tunic with red embroidery. Left pic is the reference image, right pic is the finished nutcracker.

Update!
I finished painting the Elena of Avalor Nutcracker for REAL this time! Shirt hem detail now included. πŸ€ͺ

Full disclosure, I love her. She is my heart!

A Christmas table runner that took much too much effort.

Sew a table runner for Xmas they said.
It'll be fast they said.
Make with one fabric they said.

Me and my extra ass:
Nah. Two fabrics, adjustable for 3 table lengths, fabric buttons, thread loops, shit load of cording, appliqued strips, rolled hems, and handmade beaded tassels.

I caused quite the stir with that holster! I even double checked all the state and local laws to make sure I was allowed to have it. And that was just to go to a private business Halloween party!

But I'll deal because this thing is super rad!

Side by side of Elena of Avalor and the nutcracker I painted in the same outfit. The nutcracker has a sword though.

Xmas crafting is in full swing! @nickferris.bsky.social and I painted our very own nutcrackers! Having played Elena of Avalor for years in two Disney RPGs, it only felt appropriate to pay tribute.

Thank you so much!! It's been a journey with details, for sure. I was (and still often am) quite intimidated by the skills and techniques needed. (Those buttonholes were not the first attempt...) Then I see pros do it perfectly and quickly, and I get massive imposter syndrome.

Side by side of three images of the front of the coat. Left pic: On the right side of the coat are dragon buttons from the outside. Middle pic: Reverse of those buttons revealing anchor buttons. Right pic: Hand-stitched buttonholes using waxed pearl cotton thread. Side by side of the inner front of the coat. Top image shows the lining laying flat, connected to the front facing of the coat. This is how it appears while wearing. Bottom image shows the lining lifted up, revealing the hand-stitched hem, French tack, and the connection point of the lining.

Small details, big impact. @nickferris.bsky.social winter coat was a joy to make, with *chef's kiss* details that my little heart loves.

I used dragon buttons with reverse anchor buttons, hand-stitched button holes, and a complex hem that falls oh so perfectly.
