It’s supposed to be an enjoyable time, or at least that what’s he’d heard . .

All of it. Getting remarried, starting a family. She clearly wants out . .

She’s glowing, and she’s growing their child. He couldn’t be happier.

He thinks she’s never looked better.

“A son . .” He murmured in disbelief, as he continued to relax beneath her touch. “After all these years…”

Closing his eyes, he couldn’t fight how quickly his tension dissipated beneath her fingers. “Did you say he…?”

He knew she’d apologised, and he knew she was trying, but he still couldn’t help feeling hurt. “You don’t really need me . .” He whispered.

“Then why do you keep running back to him?! Why do you need to make him jealous when I’m right here?!

You’re carrying my child, for god’s sake! You’re wearing my ring, you share my bed. When is it going to be enough for you to forget about him?!”

“You told him I’m no more than a body to warm your bed.” He responded with a bitter shake of his head.

“You got your wish, I’m leaving for good. I’ll never bother you or the child again.” He muttered, fighting back tears as he kept his head down to hide how heartbroken he was.

He’s been listening in on her conversation with his cousin, and he’s heading home to pack his things.

Leaving his ring on the table in the foyer as his heart started to break. He sees no point in making any effort for someone who doesn’t really want him.

It most certainly is.

He knows she can.

She’s not, but if she were, well, it’s just more of her for him to love.

“You’re doubting my senses?” He asked with another chuckle as he held her close. “I can hear the heartbeat.”

He’s quietly chuckling to himself when his ears picked up a second heartbeat coming from inside her body, then he moved to bring her into him. “You know you’re pregnant again, right?”

“It’s not the eighteenth century anymore, things are different.” He quietly pointed out as his gaze followed her movements.

“What else could I do? It hurt watching you pine after him day in and day out, even after we were married, you didn’t stop.”

“Even when he was with you, he still wanted her. Everyone knew it.” He responded bitterly.

Then he turned around and stared at her with wide eyes. “You were pregnant…?”

“He’s never going to want you, but you’re never going to stop pining after him long enough to see what’s in front of you.” He responded with a disappointed shake of his head.

“I don’t anymore, why can’t you see that?!” He shouted angrily and turned back to the window behind him.

“And he’s never had eyes for anyone but her, what will it take for you to see you’ve got someone right in front of you who doesn’t see anyone else?”

“The very fact that you’re here, means it will happen again.” He responded with a smirk as he turned to face her.

He certainly wasn’t a delicate flower, and he knew what he was getting himself into.

“You better not hold back, because I’m not going to.” He warned, before he rolled them over and pounded himself into her without any hesitation.

He knew it wasn’t him she was wanting but he wanted her and he’d take any opportunity he could get to have her.

Holding her against him, he hungrily kissed her neck and moved his hands down her back. Memorising the feel of her skin beneath his finger tips.

“That’s more like it.” He chuckled, as he led her over to the bed and pulled her dress from her body.

“I’ll buy you a better one.” He responded with a shrug as he carried her to an empty room and locked the door behind them before he put her down.

“I’m going to rip it from your body anyway.”

Glaring at her again, but he was as stubborn as she was. And it was that stubborn streak that had him putting her over his shoulder to carry her upstairs.
