Tech hack. Hacks tech. Was Prince Philip. Wrote firmware for Clive and Alan, wrote words for decades, now Register columnist and creative tech at Civic Digits. Quite blind. Music, history, radio, science. Only robots have to be binary: YMMV.

Quite amazed how easily trans denialists slip into autism denial. I suppose once you get the taste for punching down, you crave variety in the diet.

Quite so. But we know that facts are anti-American so I feel churlish for even mentioning it

Libel and IP law, I know. Or knew, anyway. Never touched crime, and you can't pin nuffink on me, copper.

I thought it was only sub judice after someone was charged? I am in Scotland, where the rules are different, so I could be confused. Also, I know little of this Mock the Week of which you speak.

Nobody can say the proletariat aren't represented in British politics. The latest MP is a plumber, and even the Prime Minister is a caretaker.

400th anniversary of John Dowland's death. First line of Gary Numan's first album is "Flow my tears, the new police song", nicked from Philip K Fixk's novel "Flow My Tears, The Policeman Said", itself lifted from Diwkand's Flow My Tears. That set my life course. Take no nonsense about appropriation.

Perhaps just his head on a stake then. It would be heritage compliant.

Turns out last week's broadband outage chez moi was because my fibre connection in the pavement cabinet got massively scrambled by an installer doing another job. The guy who had to fix this for an hour in the snow? Unimpressed.

Paging responsible adults. Paging responsible adults. Responsible adults to the white courtesy phones please.

There are solutions to all of these things, imperfect but workable. One even involve a replica Samian ware goblet as used in 1 CE Judea, aka the Holy Grail, as a phone stand. I may even make tomorrow evening's deadline.

This is at eye level directly overlooking the pavement on the main street, or as I prefer to see it, in the dispensing machine for the local Cash Converters supply chain operatives. Also, the phone needs to be upright, hard if the charger is plugged in, and good luck with phone calls.

I am using my mobile phone hotspot as fallback right now. It works, with one proviso and several consequents. The proviso is that thanks to geography on the part of God and parsimony on the part of EE, the only place I get any signal is in the upper corner of a kitchen window.

The visit is promised by 6pm tomorrow, for which they will charge me £180 if they possibly can. As for fixing the fault on the first go, on my experience I would rather bet on Laughing Boy on the 3;30 at Newmarket.

Now into the second Point Of Peril.

First Point Of Peril: the site visit by an engineer - to be precise, the subcontractor used by the supplier to my broadband provider - to wit, whoever it is BT Openreach use. On behalf of Zen. Thus is doubly non- deterministic. Will they turn up, and will they fix it? We can only wait

Following an amusing sesh of Mr Broadband Tech Support helped Mr Blind Bloke find and impale the pinhole reset on the ribbed side of a wall mounted box by touch over the phone, and following the return of Mr Solid Red LED thereafter... It's dead, Jim. Thus, our saga begins.

My computer has decided that henceforth, pressing Caps Lock will swith the system into 2-step Korean, viz ㅗ디ㅣㅐ 재깅. Korean linguistics are fascinating, but I'd rather study them on my own terms. Mac key bindings are all over the place, so here comes Another Opportunity To Learn New Things. Sigh. ㅁㄱㄴㄷ

Choosing good science and compassion over pseudoscience and focussed spiteful cruelty?

Oblong Is my favoruite word today. It is the silliest of the shape words, not as sensible as circle nor as self-important as parallelogram. It feels so nice in the mouth and is such a fun to say.
