Leonard Cohen - apparently changed the verses at times. Loved him, saw him 3 times on his visits to Australia.

Glad I'm not the only one! I get up and walk out, or turn the volume down, change channels ... Anything! Really really don't want to hear this disaster. Feel as though I'm playing ostrich, but there's nothing I can do except hope somehow it ends before too much damage is done. Poor Ukraine 😢

Watched an Aussie journo in the US interview a carpet importer.
Journo: You're voting for Trump?
Importer: Yes
Journo: There will be tariffs imposed
Importer: That's good, we need that
Journo: Your carpets will cost more.
Importer: .....
I wonder if he did still vote Trump

Microplastics are everywhere—including inside us. And that's not awesome, given that new research in mice finds they can mess up blood flow in the brain. That and more of the best from @science.org and science in this edition of #ScienceAdviser: www.science.org/content/arti... 🧪

Nor me! Try 'How to Bullet Plan', Rachel Wilkerson Miller (I borrowed from the library then bought a copy!). It's straightforward & humorous - helped a lot. I began with Carroll's layout but was frustrated cos it didn't suit; & I can't do fancy. Miller's take is, do it the way that suits you!

Preschool intervention dramatically reduces youth crime, study finds As the Queensland government debates laws to make the state safer, an Australian study spanning more than 20 years finds early preschool interventions can ensure children live a life without crime.

Disadvantage can be mediated. It beggars belief we’re still having such conversations. Equity helps everyone. www.abc.net.au/news/2024-12...

Hoddypeak [HA-dee-peek]
(n.)
- A blockhead; a fool; a simpleton; a numpty; a ninnyhammer.

Used in sentence:
“Jim the janitor always kept to himself, never made a fuss, the type of guy everyone assumed to be a hoddypeak; how he managed to walk out of the bank with all that money remains a mystery.”

At 60 I had to quit my job because it involved some physical labour and I developed bursitis (but I also had 40 years of admin experience). After that I applied for many many jobs and the only responses I got were two employers wanting to know my age!! Wishing you all the best in the job search

The picture shows a small figure of a bird with a extended neck, pointed beak, wings close to the body.

An Ice Age masterpiece: the oldest known representation of a bird.
The small carving (4.7cm) of a water bird was made from mammoth ivory some 40,000 years ago. It's thought to be a diver, cormorant, or duck.
Found in the Hohle Fels cave on the Swabian Jura.

This is very puzzling. I find it astonishing that IF she did it, she thought she would get away with it? Because she's the only person at the meal who did not get sick, or did she & I missed it?

Thank you. They're only about an inch high at the moment, but I'm watching them closely. 🙂 I've never had it fresh, only the dried leaves from supermarket, so I'm looking forward to it.

I've planted basil, oregano and dill seeds and dill are the only ones to raise their heads above the soil - LOTS of them. Wondering what I'm going to do with it all - this looks good!

Great to see this paper published. I was happy to take part in this research last year at the University of the West of Scotland. Congratulations to all the team.

It is apparently National Coming Out Day. So, a reminder:
You don't owe anyone your coming out. Not even if the only reason you don't want to come out is that you're a very private person. Not even if you're a celebrity.

I hope you're safe. I hope you're loved. I hope you're unashamed.

Oh, yes! Opposite me is a linear park (browning off now) & at the end on the main road are filtration ponds where there are masses of birds. The Wood ducks *walk* 😬 across this road, up my street & graze on people's gardens. Occasionally see them on my lawn. So peaceful watching them. (Stock photo)

Walking with headphones - so big and awkward. I walk with ear buds to listen to the radio but always end up just listening to my thoughts instead! Not many birds here except at dawn and dusk, mostly traffic noise.
