As the market has evolved, private-sector providers now deliver high-quality green building certification at scale. This is a welcomed sign that our collective efforts to transform the market have succeeded.

From our roots as EarthCraft Virginia to leadership in energy codes and building performance standards, our mission has been to advance sustainable, affordable, and energy-efficient construction through education and technical support.

For almost two decades, we’ve helped shape the future of sustainable construction in Virginia, certifying nearly 50,000 homes that prove better building is possible.

This change allows us to concentrate on the areas where our nonprofit leadership adds the most value: building science consulting, workforce development, post-occupancy services, policy and market transformation, and residential energy programs.

Today, we’re taking an important step forward by refining our focus to better serve the evolving needs of Virginia’s housing market.

Over the next year, we will phase out the majority of our direct multifamily certification services and transition those projects to trusted partners.
