Mamdani: I would say that for the former governor to have spent an entire day speaking almost exclusively about me and barely about the New Yorkers who have been killed is indicative of the very politics New Yorkers want to leave in the past.

Mondays shooting cant both be a freak incident involving someone from out of state randomly showing up *& also* evidence that Mamdani stances are soft on crime. Its one or the other & if its the latter the Q should be why it happened under the watch of the cop mayor that gives the NYPD everything

It didn't get 1/100th the attention of what happened in NYC, but in Reno today, a gunman opened fire in the valet parking area of a big casino. He killed three people and injured three others, including a cop. This happens every day in America, red and blue.

It's not the city. It's the guns.

I am kinda fascinated by the emerging joint deployment of “Mamdani would take away the NYPD’s ability to effectively deal with shootings like the one that happened on Monday” and “It’s impossible to prevent shootings like the one that happened on Monday”, sometimes on the same page of the newspaper.

It’s mind boggling. Zero critical thought. Cognitive dissonance be damned. I don’t get it.

It’d be really good if our current mayor and other leaders could address this. I don’t really care *why* the shooter did what he did. I just want to know my family & I can walk around - in midtown Manhattan! (or anywhere else in NYC) - without wondering if NYPD can protect us from assault weapons.

This quote from a retired NYPD detective is horrifying. Are we supposed to live in fear of someone walking around w/an assault rifle & no one can do anything about it? I get that a big part of the problem is lax/nonexistent gun laws elsewhere. But, we’re here. Are we just supposed to cower in fear?

a cop is mayor of nyc and runs the mayor's office like a crooked precinct with a bunch of his cop friends. they brought a massive police presence to the scene where they waited until the shooter killed himself. and somehow this is the fault of the not-yet mayor who wants to reform the police dept.

How could this possibly be about Mamdani?!?! What about the, um, *current* mayor whose *current* NYPD is supposed to be protecting us from someone who *yesterday* walked into a midtown office building with a friggin’ assault rifle at his side??? I don’t get it. How about some accountability?
