Ah I knew @robertdeakin.bsky.social was here, I just couldn't find the bloody tag!
My kind of research! That said, I have not been to a pub in 5 years now because of infection risk and also that kidney failure means I cannot drink a whole pint of any fluid.
But the pub as a space, and place for conversation. Nothing beats it in my mind.
Your last orders project with Rob gets a lot of coverage in the rural pub chapter!

We visited pubs across the country, from the desi pubs of the West Midlands to a Rochdale Wetherspoons with pitstops at rural pubs and many more.
It includes a family story taking us from my Great-Granddad's pub in Tanzania to my Dad's pub in Southall and back to the Midlands via the Punjab.
Pubs for the People by me & Vallu is out with @manchesterup.bsky.social in October. On how the pub can be salvaged as a space for the Good Life that goes beyond boring ideas of White England.
A bargain at £18.99 in hardback (cant even get 3 pints for that!)

One of my best friends Dad's is on this list - news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/ot... and it was ultimately a tragedy that involved CTE, violence and things that might have been avoided without the false promise of boxing millions.
As someone who did it extensively. This is obviously a myth. 99.9% of people are still in poverty! The tiniest percentage of people get rich. Most are tragic footnotes forgotten and uncelebrated.
