My hands are the hands of a signer.
They will always say, I love you
no matter how inadequate or broken my love is.
Because if you are deaf
then we are family.
Oppression may lead us to harm one other
But my hands, on behalf of my heart will always say I love you.

Looking up close in the mirror.
I do not see blue rectangular ears.
Deaf is scarred into my inner self,
where I try to breathe in this stifling audist place called life.
I will go on choosing what I see
with clarity.
No waiting for allies to recognise.
I will believe, in the self I have become.
