Was really dragging with my latest draft until I realized that it was boring the spit out of me. Long story short, I cut 20,000 boring words from it and began rethinking the whole process.

It’s coming along nicely now.

I’ve been toying with the idea of building model ships. And then I did the research and I think 40K will do a better job of keeping my family out of the poor house.

My advice for young writers is to hold onto rejections like these. Keep them somewhere you can see them regularly. We’re in a weird profession where a good rejection can keep us motivated and cheer us up, but there you have it.

A kind and encouraging rejection from a lit agent. After saying she just didn’t know who she could pitch my novella to, she said this:
