Yeah, I still have to deal stuff like this on my neighbourhood connector paths. Le sigh.
The bare streets are quite tempting, though
I’m gonna need someone to talk me out of bringing out the summer bike this week. 🫣 #yegbike #yeg
On a related note, the usual responses to any dashcam or photo radar related topic is pretty on point for the average behaviour of motorists in the city.
For how progressive r/Edmonton can be, all you have to do is post about having to walk on icy sidewalks or inadequate bike detours for the carbrains to flock and tell you to "deal with it". #yegbike #yeg
I always wish there was a way to re-channel this deference into those motorists who regularly pull out at stop/yield signs, or make left turns in front of me, but I digress… 🫠
#yegbike conditions on 76 Ave are actually quite good, save for the area near the fire station. 83 Ave and 110 Street also good, though I fear that the windrow covering more than half of the NB lane in some areas is going to cause some isues when it begins melting.
As if the comical width of this neighbourhood crosswalk isn’t enough of a middle finger to pedestrians, apparently the City finds it acceptable to leave snow unplowed like this for half a month while the driving lanes remain bare. #yeg #yegbike #yegwalk
It always baffles me to see the risks people are willing to take on residential streets. It brings to mind the psychological research that humans are generally horrible at decision making.
Seems about right, seeing as how some people still have no qualms about directly blocking curb ramps and fire hydrants. Basic learners’ permit test questions.
So, Ledcor has done a great job w/ active transport detours for the Capital Line LRT work, but there is something very unnerving being this close to the road, with no separation in lots of spots.
Esp when 90% of vehicles are speeding through the construction zone at any given time.

Still a regular occurrence in Garneau/McKernan.
And funny enough, pickup and drop off times are often the absolute worst. Illegal parking/stopping, U turns, the list goes on and on.
There are a few playground zones that I actively avoid now due to this.
How dare you interrupt their speeding.
One day later, hard packed roads are in prime condition, and lots of residential walks are cleared, so riding is possible if you don’t mind hopping back and forth between the two. Uncleared city paths are barely even walkable, though. #yegbike #yeg
Didn’t ride today, but after a run, I can report that the snow drifts+accumulation is really bad. Luckily, I don’t need to ride this week, but if your route consists of a lot of 72h clearing schedule paths, you might be frustrated until next Monday. #yegbike #yeg
At least for me, it helps if I’ve resigned myself to the fact that I’m going to get soaked.
You should ride by here: www.reddit.com/r/edmontoncy... - too many MUPs remain dangerously icy like this. #yegbike
But at least they saved the street parking. #yegbike #yeg

🙃
It’s by a high school, fairly certain they are students parking there for the day. I guess if they show up days later during school hours they might nab someone else.
In a 15km ride today, I saw at least 8 vehicles parked blatantly illegally, completely/partially blocking crosswalks, or on the sidewalk.
CMV: It’s not ignorance, it’s entitlement, because they know they can get away with it over and over again. #yeg #yegbike
Why am I riding/walking on the (bare pavement) road, you ask? #yeg #yegbike
Anyone else close to grabbing a block of ice from the nearest windrow before crossing the street to wield in hand because they are sick of almost getting hit daily by speeding drivers in their neighbourhood? #yeg #yegbike
Yeah, it’s def a standards issue. Like many paths constantly in the shade, when the snowpack starts to melt and refreeze, it becomes dangerous for a large majority of people very quickly. We hold homeowners and businesses to a higher standard.
This happens every. single. year. With how much use it gets you’d think that they’d try and get ahead of it before it gets to this condition, but nope.
I will say though, part of me sees a bit of schadenfraude in that motorists are experiencing a small dose of what active transport users experience on a weekly/daily basis - getting stuck or having portions of a route be impassable. Problem is, the experience is magnitudes worse for said users now.
“NOT A CENT FOR LRT AND BIKE LANEZ UNTIL SNOW REMOVAL IS FUNDED!!!!” 🤪
