I’ve asked my Scottish Parliament candidates to reform rural payments and restore Scotland’s river catchments — including coexistence with beavers. Add your voice: www.scottishwildbeavers.org.uk/take-action/...
🦇 It's March! Bats may begin to emerge and signs of limited activity can be seen (if you haven't already!). There are small numbers feeding as it gets warmer. In bad weather, they may become torpid again.
Our CEO, @kitstoner.bsky.social wrote a blog about the fact that nature and business are not at war. The negative rhetoric from government and other politicians continues to undermine and undervalue the vital role wildlife plays in our prosperity www.bats.org.uk/news/2022/10...

Well done Arianne a very worthy winner! 👏🦫
And now for the winner of the MSP Nature Champion of the Year 2025... @ariane-burgess.bsky.social!
Ariane is the Nature Champion for the Beaver and the Aspen, and wins the award specifically for her work championing the beaver - including her support with the release of beavers in Glen Affric! 🦫
Agartha’s surge on Instagram is pushing Nazi mythology into the mainstream, with teens using the meme to target teachers by race & religion. Extremists like Martin Sellner are now leveraging the trend to normalize white nationalist ideology—another example of Meta’s failure to curb harmful content.
Newport-on-Tay brownies enjoying learning all about bats recently 😀
Don't buy 'curiosities' made of dead bats!
Online stores including Amazon and Google shop are still openly selling these items, a year after we highlighted the problem. Trade in Endangered species needs to stop. #wildlife #bats #nature 🌍

🦇 'Bats' are more than one species. They are an incredibly diverse group of mammals with 1,500 species that we know of. There is a huge diversity of sizes, colours, nose shapes, ear shapes, diet, habitat and more!
In the UK, there are 18 resident species: www.bats.org.uk/about-bats/w...
An investigation by journalists at The Ferret found that local MSP and Deputy First Minister Kate Forbes, the National Farmers’ Union Scotland (NFUS) and landowners had “privately piled pressure” on NatureScot to derail the application.

This is worse than I thought. While this is about England, you can be sure if it suceeds there, the pressure will be on the Scottish Government to do the same.
Shame on our UK Government for selling our nature and destroying OUR countryside 😡😡😡

"The push to farm all available land to produce as much food as possible during WW2 continues into the current subsidy system. Even when farmers want to leave marginal and hard-to-manage areas alone, the subsidy system drives them to keep fighting nature."

🦇 Grooming rabies away
A new study finds vampire bats can lick rabies vaccines off each other, spreading immunity through grooming. 88% of a colony was vaccinated in days.

Over 800 people have already contacted their MP. Thank you for speaking up against the governments licence to kill.
We need to keep the pressure up to that the government will listen to its own evidence. Please share with anyone who cares about nature.

Another beaver talk done 💪 This time in Crook of Devon, in the vanguard of beaver advance. One more talk in Balmaha on the 14th and then thats them finished until the autumn.
In order to address the climate and biodiversity crises, we need our leaders to be taking clear and bold actions to restore nature at scale, while creating benefits for people.

Who would have thought wildfires could come to Scotland? 🔥
Yet this year drought and fire have been very real issues.
Could beavers be used alongside agriculture in Scotland to help water retention and protect crops or livestock from wildfires? 👀💭
