I just did a felt friend/worry pet program though I used some fabric glue because I was worried that the sewing option would be too difficult. What are your thoughts?
12.12.2024 19:05 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0We need to be better about communicating our value to students. We have been raging against stereotypes for decades now. I know that most of us at my institution need to be better about getting out in front of our students, especially undergraduates. Sigh...

This is a concerning article but the above is basically what we parsed out from our advisor board recently. Students don't know what librarians do, who the librarians are, & half the time they don't know how to access us (not for lack of trying). 2/3

โWe interviewed a lot of students and they still kind of didnโt know what librarians do,โ Whitaker said. โThey kind of had these stereotypical, โOh, a librarian is like a cat lady in a cardigan thatโs going to assist me.โ..."

I'm perpetually behind on all the books I signed up to review on #NetGalley. This cannot just be a me issue ๐ #BookSky
11.12.2024 18:35 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0So far the University Libraries' Queer Book Club has read:
1. Hell Followed with Us by Andrew Joseph White
2. What Moves the Dead by T. Kingfisher
3. Camp Damascus by Chuck Tingle
4. A Botanical Daughter by Noah Medlock
5. Bury Your Gays by Chuck Tingle
The cover of Sunyi Dean's The Book Eaters. It shows two paper people standing in front of a looming paper house. The entire seen looks like it is coming from a pop up book
One of my great joys has been forming a Queer Book Club. We started in the middle of the Spring 2024 semester with Hell Followed with Us. There have been great discussions with students about the books we've read so far! This month's book is The Book Eaters by @sunyidean.com.
26.11.2024 19:20 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 2 ๐ 0Two books are shown. The one on the left is open, showing stills from Miyazaki films. The book to the right is Howl's Moving Castle. Both books are on stands. In the Middle is a flyer advertising the watch party
A room with round tables and chairs. Students are shown watching a movie off a projector at the front of the room
Used the 20th anniversary of Howl's Moving Castle as an excuse to test hosting a watch party! Attendance okay for Nov. Students filtered in throughout the 2+ hour movie
Now we just have to regain control of the light switches in this room to be able to dim or turn out the lights ๐ซ ๐ซ ๐ซ

There are many Star Trek episodes that I continue to come back to. As we continue to talk about AI, I think often about Data and the S2Ep9, The Measure of a Man.
As AI becomes more advanced, when will we start having these conversations? The future is going to be wild!
Comics Plus is only possible thanks to library-friendly publishers who truly value reaching readers through libraries and schools, and this starter pack includes all of them we've found here on Bluesky so far. (If we missed you, let us know.)
