aseprite may be "open source" in the sense that you can see and contribute to the code, but its not really FOSS due to the EULA it has

I could also try libresprite which is actually open source and is a fork of an older version of aseprite, but I dont wanna use aseprite based things this month x)

silly idea I had, but I think I'm gonna switch off from Aseprite and other propietary creative software, at least for an entire month

main reason being that I just wanna give a try to open source/FOSS alternatives lol
