The calligraphy is the first line of her poem. I just found it in English, so Mr. Aso, the calligraphy master I was studying with, back translated it into Japanese.

I was painting cranes and wanted to find calligraphy to add. I found this poem by 11-year old Sadako who survived the Hiroshima bombing but later developed leukemia. "I will write 'Peace' on your wings, and you will fly around the world so children will not have to die this way anymore."

I studied watercolor and Japanese calligraphy at the Kaji Aso Studio in Boston for a number of years.

Most studies on alcohol that find negative health outcomes lump all alcohol together. This paper is a meta-analysis of just red wine studies (74) from 1987 to 2023. No negative health effects of moderate consumption (~2 glasses/day for men).

Cooking your turkey--if you want to be able to predict when your turkey will be done, I have laid out the steps to take (published in the journal of the U.K. Royal Statistical Society). I have included screen shots of the article. I taught statistics at UMass/Boston for 40 years.

Thanks for posting this. Most political scientists like to study adults, ignoring childhood. Our latest study found punishment producing significantly higher anger and seeing the world as a more dangerous place--this was true even after controlling for parents' political ideology.
