Hey! The Cryptid Show ttrpg, which I did a lot of art for, has a new stretch goal that will... make the book have more of my art! If the goal's met, I get to draw an additional 15 more illustrations centered on cuddly fellas like the ones pictured here!

I don't think we understand just how bad the decline of the Internet is to knowledge.
3 years ago, I could perform a very basic search in any engine and get an absurd number of relevant links, research articles, etc.
Today, I can perform the same search and find absolutely nothing.
This is a drum I've been banging for a while -- if it were true that higher taxes made rich people flee for low tax areas, there would be no rich people living in CA or NYC! It's a claim that's used a lot by anti-government types and it's long been visibly and demonstrably false.

As in, "if you think warfare should have a serve rule, you haven't fully taken in what war is, and should rethink that before you form opinions on anything else about it."

But at this point I'm beginning to think it would be a favour to the world if Nordic people used the cultural appropriation discourse to show these guys as the 12 year olds playing viking in plastic horned helmets that they are.
Then there's the ones going "it's the oil money" - again trying to exempt themselves from having to recognise the successful outcomes of socialist policies and worker's struggles by pretending Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Iceland, the Faroes and the rest of Europe doesn't exist.
What the hell, people?
Then there's "Norway is successful because it's so small and homogeneous" - a combination of American exeptionalism and racist dogwhistle which signals complete ignorance of all of the history of Scandinavia since the end of the ice age.

Implying "socialism is bad, so anything good that happens can't be socialism". Ignoring century and a half of labour movement's socialist struggle for basic rights and protections.

But too many of the slaves died in captivity. And so Columbus, desperate to pay back dividends to those who had in-vested, had to make good his promise to fill the ships with gold. In the province of Cicao on Haiti, where he and his men imagined huge gold fields to exist, they ordered all persons fourteen years or older to collect a certain quantity of gold every three months. When they brought it, they were given copper tokens to hang around their necks. Indians found without a copper token had their hands cut off and bled to death. The Indians had been given an impossible task. The only gold around was bits of dust garnered from the streams. So they fled, were hunted down with dogs, and were killed.
After each six or eight months' work in the mines, which was the time required of each crew to dig enough gold for melting, up to a third of the men died. While the men were sent many miles away to the mines, the wives remained to work the soil, forced into the excruciating job of digging and making thousands of hills for cassava plants. Thus husbands and wives were together only once every eight or ten months and when they met they were so exhausted and depressed on both sides... they ceased to pro-create. As for the newly born, they died early because their mothers, overworked and fam-ished, had no milk to nurse them, and for this reason, while I was in Cuba, 7000 children died in three months. Some mothers even drowned their babies from sheer desper-ation.... In this way, husbands died in the mines, wives died at work, and children died from lack of milk ... and in a short time this land which was so great, so powerful and fer-tile... was depopulated... My eyes have seen these acts so foreign to human nature, and now I tremble as I write....
Please remember that the disgust people have over Christopher Columbus is not based on some modern, 21st century โwokeโ ideology, but rather on contemporaneous accounts of atrocities that make many modern genocides appear quaint in comparison.
Below, are the accounts of Bartlomรฉ de las Casas.
Goodbye, mama. Thank you for everything.
