I get it under historical calls as the defender just slipped. But you could envision defenders doing this on purpose if sliding in front of the ball handler is an effective way to trip them or hit the ball. You gotta call that, fouls don’t have to be done on purpose and he clearly fouled him.

Or IOW, if this valuation is right, Apple's top-end bug-bounty for top-tier security research, despite their popular image as being generous, is still about an order of magnitude below than the offensive market

So this story is super duper interesting for a whole ton of reasons, but one big one is its a very rare glimpse into the private valuation of high-end exploits held by major defense contractors

Most people on Bluesky don’t get that, they think the government will just print more capital from thin air. Economics is not a thing people on the left understand (and to be fair, not a thing MAGA-land grasps either) Not sure if that’s due a failure of our educational systems, or families, or what.

Yeah I already posted my last time I had to massively ramp down. Outside of a carefully curated feed I’ve curated the toxicity and anger was too much for me to consider it a net positive in my professional or personal life.

Bluesky is a fairly angry place. My feed isn’t terrible (with a lot of work!) but still angrier than any other SM I engage with.

And God forbid I go into explore to find something! It’s all fascism and boycotts and the world is ending or mindless drivel.

Wow… researchers from Stanford demonstrated they could decode the brain’s inner monologue (private, non verbalized thoughts articulated as words) with 74% accuracy. That’s a big deal. Sci-fi future, here we come for better or worse.

If I was suggesting an up and coming cyber R&D person to look for work, this would be where I’d send them.

I saw that. Nice outcome for Mike Frantzen and Leidos. I heard from a friend that BaH was close to acquiring them.

Exclusive: InventWood is about to mass-produce wood that’s stronger than steel | TechCrunch The material has 50% more tensile strength than steel with a strength-to-weight ratio that’s ten-times better.

This is cool, a professor in MD has developed a technique to treat wood and make it twice as strong as steel but 1/10th the weight. They’re preparing to manufacture it now: techcrunch.com/2025/05/12/i...

You might be a better man than me… I don’t mind judging people without reading all the bad books, watching the terrible movies, etc. I had a friend who was going down a 9/11 conspiracy hole who offered to be β€œopen minded and dialogue” if I’d watch some 15 hour YouTube β€œdocumentary”. Couldn’t do it!

Batteries containing their own cellular transmitters? Gee, what could be wrong with that. Crazy stuff in this article, would like it more if it had more specifics (the product/vendor name, some non anonymous quotes). But strikes me as plausible. www.msn.com/en-us/news/w...

I tried Mastodon but it was SOOO painful to use. It’s like saying β€œuse the Internet”, because of the individual servers and inconsistencies and fractured nature. I don’t think it’s ever going to get to mainstream, might as well just be on Discord or WhatsApp groups. (In my experience)

I struggle to see how they can win that. But I also have little insight into what court would make the binding ruling and what precedent is

Feels strong to call it sophisticated to me… Bloomberg @gmail.com? Really? The crypto world is awash in scams, this would trigger all kinds of warning flags for even an undergrad IMHO.

Google sold Blogspot so my stuff for fifteen years is kind of orphaned now. Any suggestions for how to export that content to another platform? I pushed the pages out to XML with the image content but don’t know where to bring it to, want to repost and start writing again.

Wow, this is super interesting. Not the last time we will see the living use AI to bring back a simulation of the dead. Novel application here, many others to come.

Yeah that’s why I joined. Definitely has not gotten as good as Twitter pre-Musk or post IMHO, but it’s evolving so I’ll hang out to see how things go. Would be nice to just have one spot where everyone was instead of bifurcated walled gardens, but maybe that’s just me… πŸ€·πŸ»β€β™‚οΈ

One downside of the Twitter Elon hijacking and resulting exodus to Bluesky is you have two platforms functioning like echo chambers.

That has empowered people to take more extreme positions and be praised for it and vocalize hostility towards those who think differently.

Not a good trend IMHO.

It’s too bad but I can’t really get on Bluesky anymore. Despite my attempts to focus on tech/Vc/founder/friends it’s still filled with non stop, Sky is falling, political rants.

Yes, there are some abuses happening. Bad things happened last administration too. This will pass. Ranting isn’t helpful

This is the first (public) example I’ve seen where traditional advanced security engineering was applied to an LLM. It’s about time!

I don’t know why LLMs exist in a vacuum and other fields are always sidelined. Security, QA, rules/oncologies, etc. It doesn’t need to be all or nothing, hybrid FTW

Just booked a back and forth to SF. Leaving on a 6AM, landing at 9:30AM. Then flying home the same day at 9:30PM, landing the following morning.

That’s gonna be a LONG day. Curious if I can still go for 31 hours straight with a couple of airplane naps, hope so! πŸ™πŸ»

Pass some sort of balanced budget/constrained spending rule. Spending should either balance (or if we love perpetual deficits) at least not exceed the rate of GDP growth. The deficit is going to bankrupt the country and our kids if not dealt with, & politicians exit before the consequences come due

Modify the 1970’s law giving the president such unilateral power to modify tariffs. Make them like other tax laws, something passed by congress.

Implement merit based hiring/firing and pay in government, so the best went to work there and they’re paid/promoted appropriately (& can be fired if bad)

Modify FOA laws to include consequences for agencies and directors who disregard them. (Current law has zero consequences, so many agencies just ignore or shuffle them around until they’re sued and a judge compels an answer… but usually the petitioner just gives up)
