Runners often suffer setbacks during the return to running phase so it's better to start with what feels very manageable and progress, rather than doing too much and aggravating symptoms.
30.09.2025 18:02 โ ๐ 3 ๐ 1 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Gluteal Tendinopathy can present with back and leg symptoms. A careful history and thorough examination can help confirm the diagnosis.
29.09.2025 11:02 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Mechanical factors in Plantar Heel Pain - the evidence is mixed so itโs best to assess foot and ankle strength and range to determine individual need.
28.09.2025 18:01 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0No single foot strike pattern is superior! In most cases it's best to stick with a runner's habitual strike pattern and focus on other areas when treating injury or enhancing performance.

The quads, calf and glutes are important shock absorbers and the hamstrings work hardest during the swing phase.
Cross-training is a great way for injured athletes to maintain fitness. Look for options that are comfortable in terms of symptoms and easily accessible for the patient.
25.09.2025 08:36 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0The 3, 2, 1 approach works really well for injured runners as they return to training ๐โโ๏ธ
It's a simple, flexible framework that can be adapted to suit individual needs.

For rehab of mid-portion AT contraction intensity appears to be key. With insertional AT dorsiflexion range may play a more prominent role. We still want to load progressively but we often start out of painful, dorsiflexed positions.
Return to running after a Tibial Bone Stress injury can be a challenge, especially with high risk stress fractures.ย
Here are 5 pointers from a great paper by George et al. (2024) in Sports Medicine.

I teamed up with @lizbayleyphysio.bsky.socialย to create this progressive rehab programme for Plantar Heel Pain.ย
We've called it 'LiTHE' (Liz and Tom's Heel Exercises) and it's aimed at active and sporty patients. It's not a recipe though so it's best to adapt it to suit individual needs.
Differential diagnosis in Anterior Knee Pain.
Pain locations are approximate and will vary!
Consider history, aggravating and easing factors and objective tests in your diagnosis alongside symptom location and behaviour.
The Endurance Performance Pyramid.
Start with a strong base of consistently, recovery and fuelling and then progress up the pyramid by building volume then adding intensity and S&C.
Consult a Running Coach for a plan to achieve your goals ๐ฅ
Running with a large forward trunk lean can affect efficiency & increase load on the Glutes & Hamstrings. These cues can help!
โผ๏ธQuick tip: Make sure the environment is right, people will lean forward uphill & to check uneven ground - suggest a safe, flat space to practice cues in 20-30 sec bursts.
Stress fractures of the foot and ankle.
โ ๏ธ Note the 'high risk' sites, they need thorough assessment (including imaging) and cautious management.

Great article from @running-physio.bsky.social I see lots of this and itโs hard for people to comprehend why lots of small muscle / ligament injuries are down to eating properly www.running-physio.com/are-your-pat...
07.08.2025 06:10 โ ๐ 3 ๐ 1 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Pounding the pavement is not a major driver of arthritis, as shown in 2024 study. (This one via @running-physio.bsky.social, thanks Tom.)
So what DOES drive arthritis? Age. Poor fitness. Old injuries/surgeries. And much of that is mediated by GENES, of course. ๐งฌ Let me spell that out a bitโฆ
You read my mind on this! Iโve been thinking this for a while. Didnโt he have a good run of goals when up front for a bit under Emery? I think it was mainly in the Europa league but he I think he did quite well ๐ค

Multiple mechanical factors are thought to be associated with Plantar Heel Pain but the evidence is conflicting and it isn't clear what is a cause of symptoms and what may be an effect (Sullivan et al. 2020).
