Matt Gurney: Carney had a choice. He chose to own one of Trudeau's dumbest ideas The gun confiscation plan is doomed that even the minister responsible knows it'll fail. The PM has chosen to proceed, anyway. To please Quebec.

Matt Gurney: The Edmonton police did a shocking thing. Good. We need a shock Unless we want to end up like the Americans, things need to change here, fast.

This article by @mattgurney.bsky.social does a good job of articulating the tension I feel over the Edmonton Police publically opposing a plea deal the crown cut for a rather gruesome crime

I have a bit of a personal window into that via my family and it's well outside my wheelhouse, but I'm consistently shocked how little this is appreciated. The number of businesses owned by people with no one to leave them to, hanging on hoping for a buyer, but likely just facing closure. Oy.

My daughter has gluten issues (not serious or fullblown yet) so I know what you mean.

I know this is a typical lament, but FYI, when we were in Europe for a few weeks this summer, she ate all the bread and all the pasta and ... nothing. No effect. Totally fine.

My kids now routinely eat food that my grandparents wouldn't have even heard of until they were retired, and that my parents would have found intriguingly exotic.

I find this topic endlessly fascinating. I use my grandparents as examples. They went, in their lifetimes, from thinking pizza was a weird, exotic food, to learning to love Indian, Japanese, Thai and Chinese. Pretty safe-for-whites dishes from each, but that was still a massive boom.

David Shipley: The food supply is a glaring cybersecurity weakness we aren't fixing If you want to know how seriously Canada takes cyber defence, we spent two years on a bill that we accidentally invalidated via a parliamentary clerical error.

This is probably one of the most important pieces I've written in years. A thank you to @mattgurney.bsky.social for the platform to share it and for helping fine-tune it.

Matt Gurney: We should do something about Canada's paperwork problem I want to live in a country where noting areas where improvement is possible is taken as helpful feedback, not something akin to sedition.

From @ericatkins.bsky.social, @theglobeandmail.com: U.S. auto companies are begging Trump for a tariff reprieve.

"Trump’s plan to levy import taxes on auto parts by May 3 will drive up prices for buyers, destroy supply chains and cause layoffs."

The U.S. auto sector relies on Canada and Mexico.
